Wayne Crick Fined $2000 For Positive Swab
Racing Queensland (RQ) Stewards today conducted an Inquiry into the analyst's findings in respect of a urine sample taken from the registered greyhound Stargate System which competed in race 2 at the Capalaba Greyhound Racing Club on 8 March 2014.
After taking evidence from Mr Wayne Crick the trainer of Stargate System and Dr. Bruce Young of the Racing Science Centre, Stewards issued a charge against Mr Crick pursuant to Greyhounds Australasia Rule 83 (2)(a), which reads:
“The owner, trainer or person in charge of a greyhound nominated to compete in an event shall present the greyhound free of a prohibited substance.”
The specifics of the charge were that on 8 March 2014, Wayne Crick, as the licensed trainer of the greyhound Stargate System, did present that greyhound to compete in race 2 at the Capalaba Greyhound Racing Club, when a urine sample taken from the greyhound prior to competing in that race was found, upon analysis, to contain the prohibited substances Meloxicam and Phenobarbitone.
Mr Crick pleaded guilty to the charge.
When considering an appropriate penalty, Stewards took into account Mr. Crick's previously unblemished record, the honest and forthright evidence he provided and his involvement in the industry over a long period. Precedents for similar breaches were also taken into account. Stewards were also mindful of the negative effect charges of this kind have on the good image of the industry and recognise the need for a penalty to serve as a general deterrent. Stewards considered an appropriate penalty to be a fine of $2000.
Under the provisions of Greyhounds Australasia Rule 83 (4) Stargate System was disqualified from its 3rd placing in race 2 at the Capalaba Greyhound Racing Club on 8 March 2014.
The placings from the 366m Maiden held on 8 March 2014 were amended accordingly.
