Stewards wrap: Riley disqualified for positive swab offence
NEW South Wales trainer Mark Riley has been disqualified by Greyhound Racing NSW after he was found guilty of breaching the prohibited substance rule, GAR 83(2).
The specifics of the case in question were that Riley's greyhound, Silent Battle, returned a urine sample which showed the presence of the prohibited substance Timolol when competing at Dubbo on November 22, 2012.
Riley pleaded not guilty, but, upon considering the evidence, Stewards found him guilty as charged. He was subsequently disqualified for a period of 12 months, with a period of six months and two weeks remaining to be served having regard to the period of suspension already having been served by Riley.
Silent Battle was also disqualified from the event in question.
Selton disqualified for misconduct
Trainer Keith Selton faced an inquiry by GRNSW stewards into his alleged conduct at the Bathurst race meeting on July 25, 2016.
Selton was charged with a breach of GAR 86(f) and 86(g) after it was alleged he engaged in improper and threatening behaviour which was directed at Troy Cameron, a GRNSW steward.
Selton entered a guilty plea to the portion of the charge relating to improper behaviour associated with offensive language, however he entered a plea of not guilty in relation to improper behaviour associated with physical assault.
While Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that Selton's actions on the day included physical contact, they found him guilty of the charge as they were comfortably satisfied he verbally abused Cameron and stood in close proximity to him in a manner that was improper and threatening.
Subsequently, stewards imposed a two-year disqualification, with 12 months suspended. Stewards altered the penalty to allow Selton to continue to reside at his family home, despite that being the residence at which the greyhounds are kept and trained.
Robert Kemp receives reduced disqualification
Robert Kemp will spend 15 weeks on the training sidelines after being disqualified by GRNSW stewards for a breach of GAR 83(2). The specifics of the case were that Kemp's greyhound, My Boy Mitch, returned a positive swab to cobalt at a mass concentration higher than the allowed threshold.
Kemp entered an early guilty plea to the charge which entitled him to a 25 per cent discount on penalty.
Under GAR 83(4) My Boy Mitch was disqualified from the event in question as well as the subsequent final, with the placings amended accordingly.
Jamie Davis fined
Jamie Davis faced GRNSW Stewards recently after his greyhound Rippin' Moi Moi returned a urine sample which showed the presence of tetrahydrozoline when presented to race at Richmond on March 26, 2016.
Davis entered an early guilty plea to a breach of GAR 83(2) and was subsequently fined $1,000, with the greyhound disqualified from the event in question.
Neary fined for positive
Queensland Racing Integrity Commission (QRIC) Stewards conducted an inquiry last week into the findings of codeine, morphine and norcodeine in a urine sample taken from the greyhound Cut The Cake after it competed at Ipswich on May 24, 2016.
The greyhound's trainer Stephen Neary was charged with a breach of GAR 83(2)(a) to which he pleaded not guilty. It was determined during the inquiry that the probable cause of the positive swab was contamination by Neary who handed medications prescribed to a family member.
Upon consideration of the circumstances, Stewards found Neary guilty and handed down a $1,500 fine, while Cut The Cake was also disqualified from the event in question.
Goldspink disqualified
Ronald Goldspink has been disqualified by QRIC Stewards after his greyhound Lite Me Up returned a urine sample which contained the substance cobalt at a mass concentration greater than the allowed threshold at Ipswich on April 19, 2016.
Goldspink was charged with a breach of GAR 83(2)(a) to which he plead guilty. He was disqualified for 15 months effective immediately and set to expire on November 17, 2017, while the greyhound was also disqualified from the event in question.
Newlyn case adjourned
GREYHOUND Racing South Australia (GRSA) Stewards conducted an inquiry last Tuesday into the analysts' findings of the prohibited substance Cobalt in a urine sample taken from the greyhound Caboose at Angle Park on March 10, 2016.
The greyhound's trainer Ken Newlyn fronted the inquiry and was charged with a breach of GAR 83(2) in that he presented the greyhound to race in a state which was not free of a prohibited substance, with the urine sample showing the presence of Cobalt in excess of the 100ng/mL threshold.
Newlyn pleaded guilty as charged, with the case adjourned for stewards to consider an appropriate penalty.
Colin Kampman disqualified
Victorian trainer Colim Kampman faced the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board (RADB) last week charged with a breach of GAR 83(2)(3) after his greyhound, Tally Ho Tink, returned a urine sample which showed the presence of Flunixin at Warrnambool on March 16, 2016.
Kampman pleaded guilty to the charge, with the RADB imposing a two month disqualification, one month of which was wholly suspended for 12 months pending no further breaches of GAR 83 during that period. The disqualification period is set to commence on August 24, 2016.
Pauline Patterson faces the RADB
Pauline Patterson recently attended a hearing in front of the RADB charged with a breach of GAR 83(2)(3) after her greyhound, Golden Bubsy, returned a urine sample which showed the presence of the prohibited substance Theobromine at Ballarat on March 7, 2016.
Patterson plead guilty and was subsequently disqualified for six months, with two months suspended for 12 months pending no further breaches of GAR 83 during that period. Patterson's disqualification will commence on August 24, 2016.
