Big Money On Offer At Devonport Raceway For The Greyhounds

A classy field of chasers will contest the $14,810 Minister's Gift Final (452 metres) at the Devonport Raceway on Tuesday afternoon.

An annual feature event run alternately at the three Tasmanian venues, the Minister's Gift was first run ten years ago and is regarded as one of the most prestigious events on the calendar.

Penguin trainer rates his kennel occupant Awesome Naz ( – Brami's First) a great winning chance despite drawing the blue box.

A last start winner and the winner of seven races in total, the chaser is suited at the venue and has been set specifically for this race.

“My bloke is racing well and has an undeniable chance of winning – it is just great to even have a runner in the event,” he explained this week.

Deverell considers the well performed Terry Penny prepared Penny's Angel (Collide – Ricky's Angel), which has drawn the check box, to be the obvious danger to his runner.

“Penny's Angel also races well at Devonport and is a faultless chaser – he will take plenty of running down,” he declared.

The Rowella based Penny is quietly confident of success in the rich event, but concedes that his chaser will need to begin better than he did at his most recent outing when run down by Left Seattle ( Cool – Miss), which may be unlucky to have been declared first emergency on Tuesday.

“Penny's Angel missed the kick slightly at the Tote Racing Centre, but I believe that he races best at the Devonport Raceway and am expecting him to give a great sight,” he explained.

Exeter based trainer has three runners for the rich event for the second occasion, having also had three runners the last time the Minister's Gift was contested at Devonport.

He will be represented by Whitney's Furnee (Where's Pedro – ), (Path To Power – Ebony Espirit) and Hellyeah Stella (Give Me Five – Hellyeah Donna), but is not overly impressed with their .

“I've drawn the white, yellow and green boxes which is not good, however it can be said that my runners are fairly versatile and have performed nicely in the heats at the other venues,” he explained.

“At least they have made it through and for sure I am due for a change of luck, having run second on three previous occasions without ever winning the race.”

Bullock rates the bitch Hellyeah Stella, the winner of five races for the Hellyeah Syndicate managed by NWGRC committeeman Rick Donaldson, as the pick of his trio of runners.

Burnie trainer Sandra Elphinstone has drawn the coveted red box with her chaser Posh Will ( Collide – Oh Zoya) and as the winner of seven races including two at the venue, he could very well provide an upset at long odds if the breaks came his way in transit.
