Tassie To be Well Represented At Nationals

Tasmania will be well represented at the upcoming National Championships at , with the top chasers ( Cool – World's Finest) and Ming Dynasty (Chinatown Lad – Brandon Sky), earning the right to represent the State on Monday night at the Tote Racing Centre.

The Peter Phillips owned and prepared Damek atoned for his last-start defeat with a brilliant victory in the State Final of the Championship (452 metres).

Sent out at the luxury odds of $1.80, he began quickly and took up a position behind the bitch Ella Lucy (Collide – Copper Delight) on the first turn, but eventually railed through to establish a winning break turning for home.

The champ then raced to the line full of running, eventually winning by almost five lengths in the time of 29.94, on a track not conducive to exceptional times.

The owned and prepared Ella Lucy hung on gamely for second placing, with Anthony Bullock's kennel occupant Hellyeah Jacko, a further three lengths back in third.

Damek has now won 38 of 48 starts and stakes of $89,345, but is yet to greet the judge interstate, due to the fact that he has failed to settle in when away from familiar surroundings.

Peter Phillips will be handling the chaser on the most important campaign of his career and it is hoped that he will reveal his true potential away from home for the first time.

Grand staying bitch Ming Dynasty continued on her winning way by taking out the State Final of the Championship (720 metres) at odds of $1.90.

The prepared, owned bitch worse than midfield, but improved to second placing approaching the turn, conceding the tearaway leader Thirteen Black (Bond – Smart And Sassy) four lengths.

The bitch then unleashed her customary barnstorming finish to overwhelm that chaser and win running away by two lengths, in the time of 43.52.

The Leigh Woods prepared Thirteen Black was gallant in defeat, with Leica Taipan (Eiffella – Miss Ricky Lee), filling third placing a further three lengths in arrears.

Ming Dynasty has proven to be something of a revelation since being introduced to the 720 metre trip by her trainer back in June.

The bitch has won her only six starts over the distance and can now boast a lifetime record of eight wins from 18 attempts and stakes of in excess of $15,000.

The fact that she is so lightly raced and has such meagre earnings should not deter her supporters because she is without doubt a bitch with outstanding staying potential.
