Whitney & Stringer Lead Tassie’s Shepparton Cup Assault

Leading trainers Mick Stringer and will forge a Tasmanian charge for mainland prizemoney Monday night, with each preparing a team nominated for the Cup and Dash For Cash series.

Stringer has entered his smart youngster Battek Boss for the Cup, coming up with the prized cherry exit in heat five. He enters the race in the best possible form, with five wins on the trot with victories over such chasers as Sing The Song, Amazing Albert and a last start 26.13 win at over Dilston Fencer.

Dilston Fencer, also from the Stringer kennel, will make the trip across Bass Straight as part of the Dash For Cash entrants. Proving that visitors can sometimes get all the luck, he will also exit the red box, however his form would need to improve somewhat to match it in Victoria, after not picking up a win from five local starts in August.

Drawing the four box in the same heat as Dilston Fencer is the Shane Whitney prepared Silent Girl. Having shown a tendency to explode out of the boxes, Silent Girl will represent value and will appreciate the drop in distance to the 390 metres she is faced with on this occasion.

Former Tasmanian, Near History will exit five in the same race for those looking to take a possible Apple Isle trifecta. Previously in the care of Richard Stamford at Westbury, Near History is now prepared out at Lara by .

Back to the heats, and Whitney has entered his talented Peter Dalton-owned dog Willy Wag Tail. He will line up in the opening heat along with Hoover Jack, Spud Regis and Dark Warrior. Many will remember Dark Warrior, who won his first seven races in Tasmania last year, culminating in a berth behind Blackalls Boss in the prestigious 1 event.

It's a tough assignment for both those greyhounds, but with any luck in running they will acquit themselves very well.

Rounding out the influx is another greyhound who has relocated to Victoria in Matt's Entity. During his time in Tasmania, the son of Vee Man Vane was under the care of winning seven races in smart time. Since making the move , he has smoked his rivals in four of his six starts, and looks well placed again in the Dash for Cash heat from box eight.

Turning the attention back to racing on home tracks, where the Devonport will be held on Tuesday afternoon. Two heats last week saw some slick times run by dogs not yet associated with such performances.

Barnes Bay from the Loretta McShane team won the first heat impressively. Starting from box five, this well bred son of prolific producer Wooreddy accounted for a smart field at only his fifth start, running a nice 25.88 in the process. Having put the writing on the wall in his previous outings, Barnes Bay strung it all together on this occasion and notched his maiden victory for owners, The Island syndicate. With performances such as the one seen last Tuesday, Barnes Bay could rise through the ranks rather quickly.

Cosmic Fire, raced and trained by Sonia Martin, was too good in the second heat winning by a neck in 25.87. Having been a consistent chaser throughout his short career, Cosmic Fire brought up his second victory in strong fashion, holding off a determined Leica Comet and now stands a live chance to win the $4000 on offer for Tuesday's Final.
