Cyclone Ned Storms In To Melbourne Cup Contention
Persistent rain throughout the afternoon saw the track downgraded to ‘slow' early in the meeting, however it was not enough to prevent Cyclone Ned ($1.50F) from showing his customary early dash from box 1 as he raced to a clear early lead.
From there Cyclone Ned was never threatened, racing away to win by 2.5 lengths over Your Show Jake ($13.60). Prepared by Keysborough based mentor Geoff Mitchell, it was Cyclone Ned's sixth victory in 16 starts at his home track.
Lynlea's King ($2.80F) was equally impressive in his Prelude, also leading all of the way to win by 4.75 lengths in 30.05.
Kinka Bale ($8.30) won the night's opening Prelude in 30.27, while Jamaican Bolt ($2.40F) and Lord Ducal ($3.50) were victorious 30.34 and 30.28 respectively.
The winner of each Solo Melbourne Cup Prelude earns a berth in the heats of Australia's richest greyhound race, the $250,000 Group 1 Solo Melbourne Cup, the final of which will be run on Thursday 26 November.
The next Solo Melbourne Cup Prelude series will be run on Thursday 1 October.
