Dewana Result Dominates Northern District Cup Heats

Dewana Result is the newest sensation in and is likely to start a short priced favourite for Saturday's final after dominating the heats at Shepparton on Monday night.

The Brendan Dewan trained speedster lived up to the hype surrounding his recent Warragul track record run by making the first heat a one-act affair. The son of and Wildcard Lass (Primo Uno – Pauline) was second last to leave the boxes but quickly set about cutting a swathe throughout the field, before exploding to the front and careering away to win.

He stopped the clock at 25.01 in his 8 1/4 length victory, which is just 0.19 outside Cape Hawke's two year old track record. He is certainly shaping up as a star of the future given that this heat was only his fourth race start.

Early leader Symmetry Lad (4) finished second, while Kraken Classy (8) grabbed third.

Grand Legacy's win from box three in second heat may not have the speed of the first but certainly lacked nothing in the tenacity department.

After vying for the early lead with Coup D'état (8), Grand Legacy found trouble and was shunted back to sixth place on the rails. The Peter Daprain trained son of El Grand Señor and Premier Babe ( – Ikari Babe) then hooked out three-wide in the home straight but still had to overcome a bumping duel with Gunai Diva (1) before he powered home to overhaul the early leader.

Grand Legacy won by a length on the line in the time of 25.65, with Coup D'état finishing second and Gunai Diva third.

The third heat was taken out by Overdrive (4) in a tight finish for Longlea trainer .

The 28-month-old son of Dyna Lachlan and Wicked Witch (Larkhill Jo – Witch Magic) was second early to Michu (8). By the time they had reached the home turn, Overdrive was challenging for the lead but Xtreme Knocka (7) snuck underneath the pair to hit the front on the rails.

It was at this point that Overdrive's name was quite befitting as he dug deep and motored home to grab Xtreme Knocka right on the line and win by the barest of margins.

Overdrive stopped the clock at 25.48, the second fastest win of the night. Xtreme Knocka finished second with Michu hanging on for third.

Who Told Blackie (7) used the wide draw with aplomb to land the fourth heat in the time of 25.55.

Beginning well from box seven, the Michael Fothergill trained conveyance quickly found the front, staying wide and out of trouble.

The son of El Galo and (Pacific Sky – Spacies Girl) was never headed as he remained in the centre of the track to stave off all challengers to score by a length.

Be Up (4) ran on strongly for second, with Oasis (1) finishing third.

The final heat featured an all the way win by Kraken Concord for Murchison trainer Kevin Eyles.

Spearing the lids from box two, the son of and Rose Patch (Typhoon Tide – Kalimna Rose) gave little else a chance as he opened up a break early and went on to score by 1 1/2 lengths in the time of 25.51.

Quick Hitch produced an eye catching run to finish second while Fearsome Warrior wound up in third placing.
