Living Country Racing Delivers $89000 For Vic Dogs

Country racing clubs and rural communities will benefit from $400,000 in Brumby Government funding for capital works and Community projects, with $89,500 allocated toward 4 greyhound tracks.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Racing Rob Hulls said today the Living Country Racing Program (LCRP) supported country racing infrastructure and focused on projects that would benefit local communities.
“As part of the 2008/09 LCRP funding allocation, 28 regional racing clubs will receive a total of $400,000 for important projects that will enhance the amenity and infrastructure of their facilities,” Mr Hulls said.
“This funding will be used for projects such as new seating, building construction and repairs, road sealing and purchasing equipment for clubs that, in some cases, otherwise could not afford them.”
Mr Hulls said in the 2008/09 allocation, Ballarat Greyhound Racing Club would receive $26,500 to upgrade toilet facilities , Horsham Greyhound Club would receive $30,000 for wind protection panels for the grandtsand, Warrnambool Greyhound Racing Club would receive $15,000 to upgrade toilet facilties and Sale Greyhound Racing Club would get $18,000 toward axxess road sealing.
“Each of these varied projects will be an asset to the clubs and the communities who use the facilities,” he said.
Since 2001, LCRP has funded 275 projects worth more than $3.15 million at Victorian country racing clubs across all three racing codes.
Clubs from all three codes of racing were eligible to apply for up to $30,000 in funding for projects to improve venues for racegoers and to enhance the facilities available for the Community. Clubs are required to match the Government funding allocation dollar for dollar.
“Regional Victoria – with 95 per cent of the state’s racing clubs and 80 per cent of the race meetings – is the breeding ground on which Victoria’s racing industry is sustained,” Mr Hulls said.
“Racing in regional Victoria generates more than $1.1 billion in economic benefit to the state and each race club brings with it a unique, lively atmosphere and a strong connection to the local Community.
“The Living Country Racing Program is part of the Brumby Government’s commitment to, and belief in, racing in regional Victoria.”
The funding announcement follows the recent announcement of the Brumby Government’s $2.1 million boost for thoroughbred training facilities in Sale, Yarra Glen, Seymour, Bairnsdale, Ballarat, Stawell, Wodonga, Kyneton, Warrnambool, Mornington, Moe and Cranbourne funded through the Racing Industry Development Program.
