Luna Jinx Causes Huge Upset In Group One Superstayers Final
LUNA Jinx caused a massive upset in the final of the Group 1 Superstayers at The Meadows on Saturday night, defeating a star-studded field including new the 725-metre track record holder, Space Star.
After stumbling at the start, Space Star suffered several checks of interference turning for the home on the first occasion and faced a tough test to catch early leader Echelonic Action, who sped away into the back straight. Luna Jinx and second-favourite Lady Toy began to make ground on the leader, with Space Star in fourth position on the outside.
Turning for home, Luna Jinx careered away to score by three and a half lengths at the finish in a fast time of 42.33. Brooke Ennis' Lady Toy finished runner-up and Space Star wound up in third position.
Owner/trainer Len Ketelaar is now $100,000 richer, with the daughter of Velocette and Hannah's Jinx notching up her 14th career win tonight from start number 32, taking took her prize money earnings to $146,730. Luna Jinx impressed in her heat win last week over Echelonic Action, saluting by a length in 42.93 and returned healthy odds tonight of $30.30 for ambitious punters.
