Miata Returns To The Meadows Greyhounds In Group 3 Topcat Series

Champion chaser Miata returns to The Meadows for a heat of the Group 3 Topcat Video Cup over 725 metres this Saturday night, aiming for her 30th win from just 36 starts.

The freakish chaser from Western Australia has drawn box three in the last of three heats, fresh off a nine and a half length win at Cannington in a sizzling 41.36. The recent National Distance Champion has raced once before at The Meadows, smashing a quality field in the Group 2 Zoom Top back in February, running 42.37 after achieving record splits.

The fawn chaser will have to contend with the in-form Fyna Bale, who has placed in eight of nine over the half-mile trip at the Broadmeadows circuit, but otherwise Miata looks to have a huge chance of progressing to next week’s $25,000-to-the-winner final.

The first heat kicks off in race five, with National Distance Championship runner-up Irma Bale renewing rivalries with Karanji, a chaser with a very impressive 42.79PB at the track.

The Darren McDonald-trained Jessie Rumble looks the one to beat in heat two after a very impressive 42.81 on debut over the 725 metres at The Meadows. The daughter of Bombastic Shiraz and Mystic Rumble faces the toughest test of her short career, facing the likes of the brilliant Granduer – returning after three months on the sidelines – and the Angela Jackson-trained Bizarre Barbie, a Queensland chaser in red-hot form since switching kennels.

The winners, seconds and two fastest thirds will progress to next week’s Group 3 Topcat Video Cup final, worth $25,000 to the winner.
