Mogambo’s Comeback Continues At Ballarat
Lara greyhound Mogambo is sure to have plenty of support when he contests heat three of the Sasha’s Blend Grade 5 to be run at Morshead Park tonight.
From the Lara kennel of Jamie Ennis, Mogambo is on the comeback trail after he sustained a bone chip in the wrist in April this year.
Mogambo (Where’s Pedro-Zarbo) had his first run back from injury last Friday night at Geelong in a classy Free For All field.
On that occasion he jumped from Box 6, but received a check in running which ruined his chances.
Ennis said that Mogambo had no luck in his comeback race, but is sure to be improved by the hit out.
His form previous to injury was excellent, with the lightly-raced chaser already notching up five wins and three placing’s from his twelve race starts to date.
“He is the most gifted chaser I have in the kennel,” Ennis said.
“He has loads of natural ability and with a clear run in the race should go well tonight.”
There will be six heats of the Sasha’s Blend Grade 5 on tonight’s twelve race program, with the heat winners and fastest second placed chasers to advance to the 450m final next Wednesday night.
Mogambo will jump from a suitable Box 8 draw tonight, with his main dangers appearing to be the Bob Iredale trained Shi Bob from Box 2, and the Heather Collins trained Booma Ricky from Box 4.
Ennis is one of a number of young trainers making a big impact on the greyhound industry at the moment.
At 28 years of age, Ennis said that he has been involved with greyhounds all of his life. His movement into greyhound racing was natural as his father and mentor Gary is one of the leading trainers in the state.
Ennis has been training dogs on a full-time basis for the past 4 years following jobs in Singapore and America where he worked as a foreman for thoroughbred racing stables.
“I learned a lot from my time in thoroughbred racing, and have used some of the routines they use on horses with success in my training of dogs,” he said.
Vee Man Vane is the current champion of the Ennis kennel following wins in the 2007 All Stars Final at Shepparton, and a second in that year’s Shepparton Cup.
The son of Solve The Puzzle has won 15 of his 26 race starts to date for Ennis, and currently holds track records at Shepparton over 390m, and Geelong over 347m.
But it is tonight’s runner Mogambo who Ennis believes could well go on to be the best in the kennel.
