Radley Bale Wins Temlee & Takes Career Prizemoney To Over $570,000
Four year-old star Radley Bale become the third highest prizemoney earner in Australian history after a sensational last stride victory in the Group 1 Macro Meats Temlee over 525 metres at The Meadows on Saturday night.
The son of Big Daddy Cool and Minkara Bale showed his amazing will to win, running down noted powerhouse chasers Mystic Apple and Glen Gallon to win his second Group race in five days, pushing his prizemoney to $570,528 – less than $40,000 behind Australia's leading prizemoney champion High Earner.
In an amazing sign of longevity, Radley Bale lined up for his 98th race start on Saturday, in a career spanning well over two years. His latest 30.16 win was one of the best of his career, according to master traine Graeme Bate.
“It was one of the greatest races I've ever seen at The Meadows. I really thought he was gone, especially chasing two strong dogs like Glen Gallon and Mystic Apple. He just gutsed it out and stuck his head out at the right time. It is such a thrill. I want to thank Joe Briffa and Rob Camilleri, who looked after the dog so well after winning the Launceston Cup on Monday.”
Radley Bale will now run in heats of the Group 1 Rover Mowers Australian Cup on Saturday night. Victory in a heat would mean the fawn flyer will have his 100th start in the Grand Final on March 3, worth $175,000 to the winner.
