Roughie Gets Up In Upset Lizrene Classic Win
Allen Shaul caused a major upset in the $29,000 Group 3 Macro Meats Lizrene Classic tonight with a stunning all-the-way victory.
After scraping through to the final after finishing fourth in his heat last week, Allen Shaul ($22.70) began brilliantly from box 6 to establish an early lead.
Reign Over Me ($6.90) settled two lengths from the leader with Next Top Model ($8) and last week's fastest heat winner Symmetry ($4.10) close behind.
Down the back, Reign Over Me looked set to reel in the lamp lighter but Allen Shaul, having just his third start over Sandown's ‘half-mile,' kicked again to take out the $20,000 first prize.
South Australian Satanic Cash ($3.80F) flashed home for an eye catching second placing just half a length from the winner.
Trained by Andrea Dailly in Anakie, the Macro Meats Lizrene Classic was Allen Shaul's first Group race final, and took his career earnings to $69,515 from 34 career starts.
Tonight's finalists will now turn their attention to Australia's richest greyhound race, the $143,000 Group 1 Radio Sport 927 Sandown Cup. Heats for the 47th Sandown Cup will be run on Thursday 6 May with the final to be run on Thursday 13 May.
