Selynya Magic Big Hope For Ballarat VBIS Maiden
Trainer Selwyn Coates will be hoping that his chaser Selynya Magic can follow up last weeks debut win with another win in the VBIS Maiden Series Semi Finals at Ballarat on Wednesday night.
Selynya Magic turned in an impressive first up performance last week to record a two length victory from Box 8.
On that occasion he was slow out, but quickly mustard speed to reel in the opposition.
“He normally begins well and has shown plenty of potential from a young age.” Coates said.
There are four semi finals of the VBIS Maiden series on the twelve race program.
The winners and second placed greyhounds from each semi final will advance to next Wednesday night's final.
Selynya Magic has drawn awkwardly in Box 4 for his semi final assault.
“He's the fastest pup I have had at his age (just turned 18 months).”
“If he gets a good run from a tough draw he is a real chance to advance to next weeks final.”
Hardest for Selynya Magic to beat in his semi final will be local chaser Timberland and Rusty Spike.
Timberland from the Sebastopol kennel of Daryl Brennan was most impressive recording an all the way victory to advance to the semi final's.
Timberland, which was also a first up debutante winner last week, has drawn Box 4 in the semi final.
Rusty Spike for David Burnett chased home the Darren McDonald speedster Silent Guardian last week.
Although being beaten four lengths by Silent Guardian his run was full of merit, and his race time of 25.39 would have won most of the races run last week.
Hobby trainer Coates only has two greyhounds in his kennel, with his other chaser Selynya Surprise qualifying as a reserve in the fourth semi final.
The veteran trainer of 38 years is well known throughout the industry, with his best chaser to date being Selynya Lass which saluted the judge on more than twenty occasions.
In semi final one the standout chaser appears to be the Kelvyn Greenough trained Bombastic Blade which will jump from Box 6.
Bombastic Blade won his heat in emphatic style last week recording a seven length victory.
Semi final three will see local chaser Claretown Annie from the Peter Griffen kennel jump from the coveted Box 1.
Claretown Annie speared to the front from Box 2 last week. If she can jump out again and get her own way in front she should prove hard to catch.
In the last semi final the Darren McDonald trained Silent Guardian will exit Box 4.
By Pure Octane out of the dam Black Chantilly, Silent Guardian ran a “best of the night” time of 25.09 seconds for the 450 metres.
If he can repeat his pace out of the boxes he will certainly give the opposition something to chase again.
