Sweet It Is and Fernando Bale – a match made in breeding heaven?

BRADEN Finn has revealed that his superstar staying bitch Sweet It Is could be mated to phenomenal sprinter Fernando Bale when the curtain finally closes on her stellar racing career.

The daughter of Mogambo and Off Springer took her prize money earnings to in excess of $1 million dollars when she claimed Saturday night's inaugural Stayers at The Meadows, joining Fernando Bale as the only other greyhound to have broken the elusive seven figure barrier in the history of the sport.

Collectively, the champion duo have won $2,186,080, with the prospective mating sure to attract plenty of attention from greyhound racing fanatics.

“She should be on season any day now, I have been thinking about it, I was going to go to Collision but I have been changing my mind a bit lately,” Finn told Sky Racing's Mark Duclos.

“Maybe the way Fernando keeps going – he might be a good match up for her with his pace and her stamina, so I might be leaning towards Fernando now.”

However, despite turning four years of age next month, there is no slowing down for Sweet It Is just yet. The eight time Group winner will be targeted at the upcoming Bold Trease Carnival Cup, with heats of the 715 metre feature to be run at Sandown Park on November 13.

Finn said he was pleased with the run of Sweet It Is in the Topgun Stayers and will now take his bonny black bitch back to Sandown to prepare for her next assignment.

“I didn't think she was going to get there Saturday, but she did in the end.

“It was a good run by the second dog (Ada Mary), it stuck on really good and it was an exciting race.

“She is pretty good within herself (after the run). She will probably go around again this Thursday at Sandown, she hasn't raced there in a while, and then she'll have a nice easy couple of weeks before the heats kick off.”

Fernando Bale will also step out for the next time on November 13 when he contests a heat of Australia's richest greyhound race, the $420,000-to-the-winner Group 1 at Sandown Park.

A win in the feature would take his prize money earnings above $1.5 million.

The 29.8 kilogram speed machine goes into the series after taking out Saturday's Group 1 Topgun in a thrilling finish, defeating a gallant Kayda Shae by a neck in a blistering 29.57 over the 525 metre trip at The Meadows.

He has now won an unprecedented eight Group 1 titles (Golden Easter Egg, , Harrison-Dawson, Maturity Classic, Peter Mosman Classic, Championship, , Topgun) as well as two Group 2s (Bendigo Cup, Cup) and one ( Memorial), with two track records at Bendigo (23.39 – 425 metres) and Traralgon (29.96 – 525 metres)

The Melbourne Cup series is tipped to be his last, with the son of Kelsos Fusileer and Chloe Allen in high demand from breeders wishing to use the white and dark brindle powerhouse.
