Sweet It Is becomes Australia’s top earner with Sandown Cup win

has become the world's highest stakes earner with a sensational display in Thursday night's over 715-metres at Park.

Beginning fairly from box two, the Braden Finn-trained daughter of and Off Springer settled midfield as Cosmic Vee Bee (box one) and odds-on favourite Space Star (box eight) took up the early lead.

As the field swung into the home straight on the first occasion, the race appeared over as Space Star dashed clear of his opponents, however, the son of Bekim Bale and darted off running through the catching pen and was subsequently shuffled back through the field.

Down the back straight and Cosmic Vee Bee was back in the lead and showing some cheek ahead of Zipping Maggie (box five) and Unix Bale (box seven), but Sweet It Is was quickly closing, weaving her way through the field to hit the front.

In the run to the line, Sweet It Is kept extending her margin, eventually scoring by just under six lengths in a slick 41.49. Lady Toy ran a top race to finish second, recording her fourth Group 1 placing in the process, with outsider Love Affair filling the trifecta back in third.

Space Star was not able to regain his momentum, finishing a disappointing sixth.

The $175,000 winner's cheque takes Sweet It Is' earnings up to an incredible $818,015, making her the first greyhound to ever eclipse the $800,000 mark and also the sport's highest ever earner, assuming that title from retired champ Xylia Allen on $743,730.

Altogether, her career statistics now read 58 starts for 18 wins and 20 minor placings and she will undeniably go down as one of the greatest stayers that greyhound racing has ever seen.

On top of her win in this year's Sandown Cup, the most prestigious distance event on the calendar, the black bitch has won a further four Group 1 events – the 2014 , the 2014 , the 2014 Sandown Cup and the 2014 Bold Trease.

She also has a victory in the 2014 Group 3 and has either placed or been a finalist in another four group races.

So why did Space Star veer off towards the catching pen,she was looking as though she didn’t know where she was, very peculiar
