The Nation’s Best Bitches Ready For Group 1 Classic

Written By Michael Floyd, Sandown Greyhound Racing Correspondent On Monday 26th October 2009

Australia’s best female greyhounds will step out at Sandown Park this Thursday night for the heats of the $72,500 Group 1 Macro Meats Crown Classic.

Cindeen Shelby, who has won two Group 1 races in her last two starts – including the Group 1 Sky Racing Topgun at the Meadows on Saturday night – headlines seven stellar heats whose runners have combined to win 552 races and over $2.6 million in prizemoney.

Multiple Group race winner Queen Lauryn returns to Sandown Park to defend her title. A controversial seconnd reserve for the Topgun, Queen Lauryn took out the Group 2 All Stars Sprint at Cannington on Saturday and boasts three wins and three seconds in six starts at the Lightwood Road circuit.

Group 1 Golden Easter Egg winner Dana Beatrice will make her Sandown Park debut and will be joined by fellow interstate greyhounds including multiple Group race winner Miss Slick, Topline Doovee, Joanne Monelli, Flying Shambi, Best Of Times, Brislane and Gnarraloo.

Flying the flag for the locals will be Group 1 Hawkins Media Laurels winner Boozeroo, who will take home a $10,000 bonus if she can complete the Sandown Classic double last achieved by Paua To Burn in 2004.

The Macro Meats Crown Classic has evolved to become one of the true highlights of the Australian Greyhound Racing calendar, boasting Australian Greyhound Racing Hall of Fame members Bogie Leigh and Paua To Burn, as well as Melbourne Cup winner Betty’s Angel on its honour roll.

The boxdraw for the Group 2 Macro Meats Crown Classic will be conducted trackside following the last race on Thursday 29 November and will be available soon after. The $50,000 to-the-winner final will be run on Thursday 5 November.
