Trainer Receives Three Month Ban For Negligent Care

Victorian greyhound trainer has been disqualified for three months for failing to take all reasonable care with regard to the health and welfare of greyhounds in his care.

on 12 September, 2008 conducted an into the condition of a greyhound which was presented for a veterinary examination at the Greyhound Racing Club on the 30 May 2008.

Stewards heard evidence from GRV Mr. C. Scott, Dr. Andrew Kalinowski, a registered person, and also tendered a report from GRV Steward Mr. J. Rea and Dr. C. Finlayson. (Mr. J. Callaway evidence was taken via telephone link.)

After hearing the evidence, Stewards charged Mr. J. Callaway of Koroit, with breach of GAR 86(o) in that he did, in relation to a greyhound, omitted to take reasonable care and responsibility with regard for the greyhounds health and welfare, which in the opinion of Stewards, was negligent.

Mr. J. Callaway pleaded guilty to the charge.

Stewards found Mr. J. Callaway guilty as charged and disqualified his licence for a period of 3 months and also imposed a $1000.00 fine.
