Traralgon Cup To Be The Best Yet

Greyhound trainers from all over Victoria are gearing up for Traralgon Greyhound Racing Club’s biggest ever Traralgon Cup.

The Glenview Park track has been brimming with cup hopeful greyhounds trialing the conditions this week in preparation for the big event on 19 September.

The winner will take home an unprecedented $26,000, with a total prize pool of $37,000.

Traralgon Greyhound Racing Club manager Martin Nicoll said greyhound racing in the Latrobe Valley was “going from strength to strength”.

It will be the second Traralgon Cup held at the club’s brand new facilities at Glenview Park.

Mr Nicoll said the new facilities enabled organisers and trainers to run a very smooth event.

Toongabbie trainer Pam Tabone said this year’s Traralgon Cup would attract the best greyhounds in Victoria.

‘It’s really exciting to get such a good class of dog that’s really fast,” she said.

‘The drawcard this year is the prize money.”

Tabone plans to enter two year-old Black Eight in this year’s event.

Leading Moe South trainer Peter Giles will enter prize winning Winoki who has won a total of almost $100,000.

Most of the state’s top trainers are also expected to be represented, including Wayne Vasallo, Darren McDonald, Jason Thompson and Graeme Bate.

Mr Nicoll said the cup would attract nation-wide coverage on Sky Channel.

Activities planned for cup night include a children’s jumping castle and face painting.

Gate prizes include a weekend for two at Crown Towers and a BMX bicycle.

Cup heats will be held on Friday 12 September starting at 3.45pm, with the final on 19 September starting at 7pm.

Gates will open at 6pm.

Entry for adults is $6, concession is $3 and children can enter for free.
