Victorian Greyhound Trainer Guilty Of Cocaine Metabolite Positive

GRV have recently found a Victorian greyhound trainer guilty of presenting the greyhound to win at the Greyhound Racing Club meeting on the 20th August 2008, which subsequently tested positive to a primary metabolite of .

The presence of in the urine is a strong indicator of Cocaine use as the metabolite is formed in the liver as the Cocaine is metabolised by the body and subsequently excreted via the urinary system.

GRV Stewards on the 14th November 2008 and 23rd December 2008 conducted an into the post race urine sample taken from the greyhound Uno Toni at the Ballarat GRC on 20th August 2008 showing the presence of the drug Benzoylecgonine.

Stewards heard evidence from Trainer, Mr. A. Sacco, Dr. J. Vine (), Dr. A. Smith ( Veterinary Clinic), GRV – Mrs. D. Pyers and six other witnesses.

After hearing the evidence, Stewards charged Mr. A. Sacco with breach of GAR83(2)(3) for failing to produce Uno Toni free of any drug for an event at the Ballarat Greyhound Racing Club on 20th August 2008.

Mr. A. Sacco pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Stewards found Mr. A. Sacco guilty as charged and disqualified his licence for two years (effective midnight 26 December, 2008).

Stewards also disqualified Uno Toni from hios winning run in Race 9 at Ballarat on 20th August 2008.
