Victorian Metro Monthly Grade 5 Finals Now Worth $10K

The Sandown Greyhound Racing Club [SGRC] and Melbourne Greyhound Racing Association [] will implement stakes increases for grade 5 finals from 1 July 2009.

As part of the changes to the Victorian metropolitan racing calendar announced in October 2008, the finals of all metropolitan grade 5 finals over all distances will carry a $10,000 first prize.

The prizemoney increase comes on the back of other recent increases to features races including The Radio Sport 927 and MTD .

“Increasing returns to owners is a priority for both clubs,†said MGRA Chairman .”

“Grade 5 series are an integral part of the racing calendar and an important for young greyhounds. The increased prizemoney for these grade 5 finals is an excellent complement to the recent prizemoney increases to the Group calendar.â€

The announcement comes after extensive discussions between the two clubs in advance of changes to the Australian Greyhound Racing Association due in 2011.

“This announcement is a fantastic example of the two metropolitan clubs working together to ensure Victoria remains the nation’s leader in Greyhound Racing,†said SGRC Chairman .

The first $10,000 to-the-winner grade 5 final will be run at Sandown Park on Thursday 16th July followed by The Meadows on Saturday 15th August.
