Victorian Racing Integrity Commissioner Re-Apponted For Further 2 Years

The Coalition Government has once again underlined its commitment to the highest levels of in the Victorian racing industry, announcing the re-appointment of Victoria's Commissioner for a further two years.

Minister for Racing Denis Napthine said the Racing Integrity Commissioner provided independent oversight of integrity issues across all three racing codes – thoroughbred, harness and greyhounds – and helped ensure the highest standard of integrity assurance through its role as investigator and auditor.

“The Victorian Coalition Government has made a firm commitment to ensure racing integrity in our state reflects absolute best practice and this is why Sal Perna will continue to play a key role in providing independent oversight of integrity processes and practices in Victorian racing,” Dr Napthine said.

“Today's announcement adds to the list of commitments delivered by the Victorian Coalition Government by leading the nation in keeping racing free from corruption.

“Already, the Coalition Government has committed $4 million over four years from the Victorian Racing Industry Fund to boost drug research capacity at Racing Analytical Services Limited. This funding will protect against people attempting to gain an unfair advantage over their competitors.

“I would like to acknowledge the contribution Mr Perna has made to the Victorian racing industry since his initial appointment in 2010 and congratulate him on his re-appointment for a further two years,” Dr Napthine said.
