2013 Greyhounds WA Anniversary Cup Review

Zelemar Fever has snatched a come-from-behind victory over On Coin and Sveta Monelli in the Greyhounds WA Anniversary Cup.

The daughter of Bombastic Shiraz and Noaki Pace equalled the 530 metre race record of 30.23 seconds, which was set by the Ben Abercrombie trainer Hot Irish last year.

The little black bitch failed to ping the lids like she is known to do from the familiar box one, giving David Hobby’s Sveta Monelli the lead as the field went to the first corner. On Coin made his presence known on the inside of the track as Zelemar Fever worked her little legs around the outside.

It was a three-dog race between the talented trio heading into the home straight. They only matched motors for a few strides before Zelemar Fever pulled away from On Coin and Sveta Monelli for the Anniversary Cup win.

The former Victorian chaser turned Cannington expert held favouritism from the punters paying $2.10 for the win.

Linda Britton’s bitches dominated the Saturday night meeting, Sadies Guess started off proceedings winning the first race on the cards in 30.73. Te Amo pulled together her second consecutive win jumping from box seven after crossing the field early. Zelemar Fever pitched in with her final win, followed by talented youngster Tears About Tears, who was victorious over the 642 metre trip. Reverberate finished off the night by winning over 715 metres for the fifth time in row.

Cannington’s very own veteran, Pedro’s Finest, won his 40th start for John Iwanyk after going without a win for two months. The white and black dog led from start to finish wearing the red rug in his 143rd career start.
