Emotional Wins At Last Weeks Mandurah Meeting

The late Joe Grima was smiling down from heaven at on Friday night as two of his greyhounds that he owned saluted at big prices.

Grima was a long-time participant in greyhound racing as both a trainer and in more recent times with his ailing health as an owner.

The industry fondly remembered Grima after his passing earlier in the week by wearing black arm bands in race 11 as a mark of respect.

Trainer John Iwanyk took over the training Grima's team last year after the former trainer became ill, with a litter brother and sister duo of Token Hotshot and (Token Royale-Money grump) being two well performed chasers under Grima's care.

Going into Friday night's program Token Hotshot had a losing sequence of seven while his litter sister Hotshot Girl had not won in 29 starts with her last win recorded in January earlier this year.

Iwanyk looked to the heavens as he asked his former owner for some help from above and he donned the black arm band as he prepared to handle Token Hotshot in race 11 the Silversands Resort stake.

Grima was obviously listening intently as he turned on his transistor radio in the sky and watched as the big 35kg red fawn dog raced to the lead and won by three quarters of a length from Double Rumble in 23.00.

The victory was a surprise for many paying over $20 on the WA tote and it was the dog's 11th career win from 43 starts.

Two races later in the last race many believed Grima assisted his favourite bitch Hotshot Girl to get over the line first.

The win was her first since January and her first at Mandurah.

The night ended on a high for all concerned, especially for Iwanyk who ended the night with three winners after Blue Chariot (- Real Jade) saluted first earlier in the night.

Former eastern states trainer Bill McNally quickly recovered from his AFL football team Collingwood's meek exit from the finals race the week before when he prepared a winning double at last Friday's Mandurah meeting.

Most Noble (Most Awesome-Magnitude) recorded her third consecutive victory when she defeated Crunch over the 647 metres.

The petite blue bitch has been very impressive since stepping up in distance in recent weeks including an eye catching win over metres at the previous week.

McNally also recently took over the training of (- Wagamama) from former owner/trainer Russell Reilly and the bitch was impressive in saluting over Splash Of Ice later on the card.

Precious Love (-Magic Coin) recorded her third consecutive win for trainer winning by four lengths from in 27.86.
