Octanol Is WA’s Platinum Paws Representative

The David Hobby-owned and trained OCTANOL will represent Western Australia in New Zealand's richest ever greyhound race – the NZ$250,000 Platinum Paws in mid-October.

The inaugural running of the Platinum Paws celebrates the centenary of greyhound racing in New Zealand. Eight Australian greyhounds will be drawn directly into the semi-finals of the series (two into each semi-final), whilst all other greyhounds will compete via heats the week prior.

The semi-finals will be conducted at Raceway in Christchurch on Friday 10 October. The NZ$250,000 final will be conducted a week later. Selected events from the three Platinum Paws meetings will be broadcast on SKY Channel in Australia.

Octanol, who has a career record of 14 starts for 7 wins and 4 placings, with stakes already approaching $60,000 will only turn two years of age just prior to the running of the Paws semi-finals.

He annexed the Group 2 WA Derby at only his fourth career start; won a heat of the Young Star Classic at Wentworth Park before an unlucky fourth in the Group 2 final behind and was runner up in the WA leg of the upon his return from Sydney. He finished an unlucky fourth in the Final at last Saturday night – his fourth feature final in his short 14-start career.

Octabnol will join fellow Australian representatives and (NSW); (Qld); and Que Sera Sera (Vic) in the Platinum Paws Semim Finals.

The South Australian and Tasmanian representatives will be determined at this Thursday and Launceston next Monday respectively.
