Octanol Is WA’s Platinum Paws Representative
The inaugural running of the Platinum Paws celebrates the centenary of greyhound racing in New Zealand. Eight Australian greyhounds will be drawn directly into the semi-finals of the series (two into each semi-final), whilst all other greyhounds will compete via heats the week prior.
The semi-finals will be conducted at Addington Raceway in Christchurch on Friday 10 October. The NZ$250,000 final will be conducted a week later. Selected events from the three Platinum Paws meetings will be broadcast on SKY Channel in Australia.
Octanol, who has a career record of 14 starts for 7 wins and 4 placings, with stakes already approaching $60,000 will only turn two years of age just prior to the running of the Paws semi-finals.
He annexed the Group 2 WA Derby at only his fourth career start; won a heat of the Young Star Classic at Wentworth Park before an unlucky fourth in the Group 2 final behind Cindeen Shelby and was runner up in the WA leg of the National Sprint Championship upon his return from Sydney. He finished an unlucky fourth in the Spring Gift Final at Cannington last Saturday night – his fourth feature final in his short 14-start career.
Octabnol will join fellow Australian representatives Beverage and Comfortably Numb (NSW); Lucky Alive(Qld); Cosmic Pharoah and Que Sera Sera (Vic) in the Platinum Paws Semim Finals.
The South Australian and Tasmanian representatives will be determined at Angle Park this Thursday and Launceston next Monday respectively.
