Three Months Disqualification For Parasite Infestation In WA Greyhounds

today concluded an into the circumstances surrounding the late scratching of Gemma Girl in race 10 at on 1st March 2012, and the subsequent telephone conversation between Mr G Berry and Mr C Courtland.

Evidence was heard from Public Trainer Mr G Berry, Steward Mr C Courtland, on track Veterinarian Dr S Gradwell, Owner Mr M Stone and Owner/Attendant Ms K Knuckey.

Mr Berry was found guilty under R86(o) for negligence in that he omitted to ensure that the greyhound Gemma Girl was free of parasites when presented to race at Greyhounds WA Mandurah on 1st March 2012 and was subsequently fined $250.00. In considering penalty, Stewards were mindful that this was the second occasion that Mr Berry had presented a greyhound not free of parasites.

Secondly, Mr Berry was found guilty under R86 (o) for towards Steward Mr C Courtland during a telephone conversation.

When considering penalty, the following was considered; that this was Mr Berry's fifth behavioural related offence. Mr Berry's personal circumstances. Seriousness of the offence.

Mr Berry was disqualified for a period of three months, with effect, expiring at midnight on the 25th July 2012.
