WA Double To Graeme Bate – Takes Both WA Oaks & WA Derby

Allen Elroy gave Graeme Bate a night to remember in Perth last Saturday by taking out both the Group 2 Britton's WA Derby and the Group 2 Solo WA Oaks, it was a stella performance by the master trainer.

Beginning brilliantly from box 2, Allen Elroy ($2.20) a dark brindle son of Collision opened up a commanding break down the back straight and was never in danger from that point on although challenged on the home corner by Vocal Enforcer ($6.70) he was to strong racing away to win by a length from the WA hope and Victorian ($4.10).

Time for the final was 30.48 this was exactly the same time Allen Elroy ran in his heat when he lead all the way from box five putting the writing on the wall he was the dog to beat in the final.

“He has had a few injury problems recently but is really firing now he probably needed the run leading into the final and he is certainly on the way up now. I might have a look at the Peter Mosman in June and certainly target the where he broke the track record.” Bate said this week.

Tonneli Bale and Graeme Bate also won the 2011 Group 2 Solo WA Oaks in brilliant fashion running down the kennel mate Shereen Bale to win the $35,000 to the winner feature.

Bate had never won the WA Oaks or the Derby but hadn't really made a target of the feature races in the past. “I think it was a great concept to have both puppy races on at the same time I think in worked very well for the club.” Bate said.

Tonneli Bale ($1.80) recorded an impressive win in the Oaks final she enjoyed the inside draw in box one after finishing second behind Olivia's Asset in her heat the week before. Olivia's Asset ($5.40) finished third in the final for WA trainer . Winning by two and a quarter lengths in 30.39 the brilliant black bitch again defeated Shereen Bale ($10.20) the same kennel mate who finished second to her in the recent Group 2 Ladies Bracelet at Wentworth Park in NSW.

Raced by Paul Wheeler she has now amassed $107,945 in stakes with 11 wins and 12 placings from 34 starts. Bate, who stays with Max Julien while in WA, is hoping to come back next year with Tonneli Bale and contest the Group 1 Perth Cup. “Her next mission will be the Group 1 Sapphire at Sandown, I'd love to win the three main races for bitches with the same dog she is very smart especially if she draws the rails.” Bate said.

After the placings in the Derby field finished in the following order 4th Battsy Monelli ($21.00), 5th Dyna Tron ($14.30), 6th Dyna Bert ($19.60) 7th Primordial ($7.30) and Dyna Max ($43.30).

Allen Elroy has raced only 22 times for 11 wins and three placings, his prizemoney earnings took a big boost with the Derby's first prize of $35,000 taking his overall stake money to $79,475.

Plus recent winner Victorian Sun Hero (2004) who also enjoyed a wonderful race career, reaching no less than 17 group race finals, for four wins and eight placings.
