Run of the week

Smart Missile proved he will be a force to be reckoned with throughout the upcoming spring carnival in Melbourne, scoring a thrilling victory in the inaugural at series at Sandown Park last Thursday night.

In all, four two dog match races were held, with Smart Missile clocking the fastest time in a scintillating 29.01 to claim the Speed Star title and a total of $25,000 in prize money.

Trainer Jason Mackay, who had sent the dog to Victorian mentor Jason Thompson in preparation for the series, said he was not surprised by the time and hinted that there could be improvement left in him.

“No surprise at all,” Mackay said.

“This dog is only 26 months of age which is scary – the best time for him to race will be when he turns two and a half, and the year after that should be just absolutely outstanding for him.

“What he is doing at this age is really mind-boggling to tell the truth.”

Check out each of the Speed Star match races below, won by Lamia Bale, Smart Missile, Texas Titan and Kayda Shae respectively.
