GRNSW Country Challenge Showdown Draws Near
It was a chaser of three and a half years from the North Coast that won in 2007 and in 2008, a veteran of five and a half years traversed the state, visiting 16 tracks and clocking up over 15,000 kilometres, to win the title.
This year the stage is set for an exciting conclusion to the Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) Country Challenge series with just eight legs to go to produce a winner and establish the field of the top eight greyhounds to take part in the GRNSW Country Challenge Showdown.
The GRNSW Country Challenge is conducted across 28 tracks statewide with each hosting a leg of the series. Greyhounds accumulate points based on their finishing position in the local finals. The highest point scoring greyhound at the end of the 28 track series is crowned GRNSW Country Challenge Champion and the connections take home a $10,000 bonus.

Miss Elly Mint Out Of Group 2 Ladies Bracelet Heats
Its been a tough week for the leading hopes in Australian Greyhound Racing over both the sprinting and staying journeys.
Hot on the heels of the news that upcoming Queensland stayer Shadow Boxer had gone a miss at his first trial in Victoria and would miss the Sandown Cup series, glamour NSW sprinter Miss Elly Mint has now been reported injured as well.
Pre post favourite for the Group 2 Ladies Bracelet at Wentworth Park this Saturday night, Miss Elly Mint was to have started from box seven in heat three of the $25,000 to the winner Ladies Bracelet.

Greyhound Racing Tips For Wednesday 29th April 2009
Welcome to Australian Racing Greyhound’s free Greyhound Racing Tips for Wednesday 29th April 2009 with Tips tonight from Ballarat (Victoria), Warrnambool (Victoria), The Gardens (New South Wales), Ipswich (Queensland), and Cannington (West Australia).
Warrnambool takes centre stage tonight with four semi finals of the Group 2 Warrnambool Classic plus just the five heats of the Group 2 Warrnambool Cup. Despite Bendigo Cup attracting eight high quality heats for their country cup, trainers have given the new Warrnambool track a wide berth with just 40 greyhounds nominated for the heats.
Whether that low turn out is related to the obvious track bias to leading greyhounds or not is something only the trainers can answer. But there is probably no coincidence that some of the quickest box dogs in training have turned out for the heats and, with the exception of the oustanding Fidel Bale; there is scarcely a single “come from behind” greyhound in the heats.

Final Hit Out For Sandown Cup Contenders
With the heats of Australia’s richest ever greyhound race, the Group 1 Radio Sport 927 Sandown Cup just one week away, a number of Sandown Cup aspirants will have their final hit outs around the country this week; but one of the main contenders has been ruled out through injury already.
At Sandown Park on Thursday night, exciting Queensland staying prospect Shadow Boxer was to have made his Victorian debut in race seven. But in a bitter blow for connections the promising stayer, who is now in the care of master trainer Darren McDonald, has been diagnosed with a “cracked” shoulder blade and will now miss the Sandown Cup series. Shadow Boxer was a last start third behind dual Group 1 winner Lilley Criminal in the Group 3 Easter Chase at Wentworth Park.
However, in a what should be the one of the highlight’s of the night Thursday, defending champion Chinatown Lad will trial after race 3 at Sandown Park in what will be his first â€half-mile’ gallop since early December 2008.

The Final Nail Is Rammed Home At Wangaratta
The Greyhound Racing Victoria (GRV) Board met today and confirmed its decision to cease racing at Avian Park (Wangaratta) effective June 26, 2009.
Board Chairman Mrs. Jan Wilson released documents showing the Rural City of Wangaratta had been informed on six occasions of the possible closure of the Wangaratta facility, if a partnership to upgrade or relocate the track could not be reached.
“The decision to end racing at Wangaratta is an extremely difficult one, but it comes after regular and ongoing discussions with the council, industry and Community representatives about the need for a partnership to rebuild or relocate the track,” Mrs Wilson said.
