Greyhound Racing Tips For Tuesday 30th June 2009
Welcome to Australian Racing Greyhound’s free Greyhound Racing Tips for Tuesday 30th June 2009 with Tips tonight from Tips tonight from Albion Park (Queensland), Gosford (New South Wales), Lismore (New South Wales), Warragul (Victoria) and Mandurah (West Australia).
With racing tonight from Albion Park (Queensland), Gosford (New South Wales), Lismore (New South Wales), Warragul (Victoria) and Mandurah (West Australia), lets review our track advice for those tracks.
Albion Park was the first track in Australia to move to the finish-on lure system and it is definitely the better of the two Queensland TAB tracks. A lack of depth in a lot of races can cause upsets at Albion Park when favourites are over-rated or suffer interference. Tread warily when betting on the corner start 600m races; and the 700m races will often throw up odds-on favourites that have alot of weakness about them. The 395m races are out and go affairs that, like all corner starts, are hazards to your punting dollar.

El Galo Shoots For The Australian Prizemoney Record
Next Saturday night at Wentworth Park the mighty El Galo lines up in the final of the Group 2 Over Flo at Stud Bob Payne Winter Stake over 530 metres. If he wins the final El Galo will become the nation’s highest stake winning greyhound, overtaking Rapid Journey’s record.
After winning his heat last week El Galo’s stake money rose to $515, 745, which is $15,250 short of Rapid Journey’s mark. A win and the $25,000 first prize will give El Galo the title and the accolades for doing so.
Both Rapid Journey and El Galo have outstanding records. Rapid Journey started 58 times for 37 wins, 6 seconds and 5 thirds with a best winning time at Wentworth Park of 29.78. El Galo has started 71 times for 45 wins, 13 seconds and 5 thirds, while his best at Wentworth Park is a sizzling 29.60 comparing favourably with Queen Lauryn’s track record of 29.44.

Ken Carr Added To GRV Hall OF Fame
GRV today released the names of another four of the 36 inductees – Chris Flint, Ken Carr, Henry Harrison & Lizrene. This brings the number of releases to six, with the remaining 30 inductees to be announced on July 12.
Hall Of Fame Inductee : Ken Carr – Adminstrator
A top junior sportsman, Ken Carr was raised in Essendon and educated in Canterbury. His sporting loves were cricket and football – including lacing up the boots as a player for Essendon thirds in the VFL – and later tennis after relocating to Frankston with his wife Brenda.
Carr’s parents were Greyhound Racing enthusiasts and, in 1958, this led to his part-time employment with the then North Melbourne-based Melbourne Greyhound Racing Association. He was a MGRA gate attendant at Olympic Park from 1962-66 and part-time office copy boy until appointed club grader in 1966.
He was considered an icon in MGRA circles and was the club’s secretary-manager from 1971-89 before his appointment as Greyhound Racing Control Board executive director, a position he held until 1996.
Carr was totally dedicated to the sport and its progress, and sustained a high level of administrative excellence.
Greyhound Racing Victoria Board Member John Wardle, a close friend for more than 30 years, said Carr was an “innovator”.
“Ken recognised the need to market and promote the sport, to secure sponsorship,” Wardle said. “He always ensured there was a lot of razzmatazz surrounding the big events.”
Carr gave Greyhound Racing distinguished service. Subsequently, in 2000, the Ken Carr Medal was struck in his honour.
The Ken Carr Medal is considered the highest award for excellence within the Victorian Greyhound Racing industry. The award, for special or outstanding contribution to Greyhound Racing, requires the recipient to clearly demonstrate four key qualities: skill, integrity, empathy for others and leadership.
“Ken would have been chuffed that the industry would recognise him in this way,” Wardle said.
Carr also lifted the profile of the Australian Cup – aligning it with the Moomba Festival. He also brought further glitz and glamour to Olympic Park with the regular appearances of models and high profile sporting identities.
As GRCB executive director, Carr was a proponent of central grading and telephone nominations. He also championed lighting upgrades and the installation of new starting boxes at all clubs.
Carr also knew how to win friends and influence people, including politicians, sponsors – and the media.
His invitations to industry scribes for â€long luncheons’ in Chinatown was an astute public relations ploy that was considered more media management than manipulation.
Ken Carr will always be remembered as one of the truly great Greyhound Racing administrators.
He passed away on November 23, 1996 – following a lengthy battle with kidney and lung cancer – aged 58.
Notable Acheivements
- Introduced central grading and phone nominations
- The GOBIS scheme
- Upgraded lighting and standardised starting boxes at each club

The 36 Hall of Fame inductees are in three broad categories:
- The Pioneers (8) – recognised by the selection committee as having shaped Greyhound Racing’s early days.
- The People (15) – includes trainers, breeders, owners, administrators and other prominent personalities.

- LIZRENE – GREYHOUND – An outstanding stayer from the early 1970s trained by Peter McGuinness.
To coincide with the Hall of Fame function, an official Victorian Greyhound Racing industry Hall of Fame website will also be launched on July 12.
Henry Harrison Honoured In GRV Hall Of Fame
GRV today released the names of another four of the 36 inductees – Chris Flint, Ken Carr, Henry Harrison & Lizrene. This brings the number of releases to six, with the remaining 30 inductees to be announced on July 12.
Hall Of Fame Inductee : Henry Harrison – Administrator
Henry Harrison’s Greyhound Racing passion dates back to the 1920s, initially as a typical punter and owner-breeder.
He witnessed his first Melbourne Cup, in the proprietary days of the sport, at Napier Park in 1927. And when the race shifted to Sandown Park in 1956, with the introduction of the tin hare, Harrison was a powerful force in developing its status.

With racing tonight from Cranbourne (Victoria), Wentworth Park (New South Wales), Albion Park (Queensland) and Angle Park (New South Wales), lets just review some of our betting advice for the way those tracks play.
Cranbourne races over the 311m, 520m and 699m distances. Punters should stay away from the 311m races as a short run to the first corner cause unpredictable results and leaders usually win. Box 8 is a huge advantage in these races.

Black Hummer Still Humming Along For Westerlo
Once the fog lifted the meeting commenced and the Lang Lang Coursing Club provided another good days coursing. In the first and subsequent rounds there were some very close courses, this always makes for a much more exciting day.
We saw some newcomers to coursing which is always pleasing. There were three puppy events and with Lang Lang hosting the Sylvester Doyle Puppy Championship meeting during August, nominations are looking good.
Due to a malfunctioning motor, resulting in the lure being unable to operate and after speaking with both trainers is was agreed that in fairness to both greyhounds contesting the feature event of the Lang Lang Football Club Cup, that the event would be divided between the two finalists of Black Hummer and Dark Phantom. Both greyhounds had coursed well for the day.

Big Cool Ronny Scores His First Staying Win

Beginning well from the three alley, he went straight to the lead and with “catch me if you can” tactics his opponents couldn’t catch him, He streaked away to win by 3 1/4 lenghts in a handy 35.85.
It was a welcome change of luck for trainer Alan Lang and owner Mick Newstead with Big Cool Ronny racking up his tenth career win. He certainly likes the Casino track, where he has won seven of those races.
