Thai Again Australia’s Leading Greyhound Dam, Again
Just as El Galo has accomplished, Thai Again has persisted in the top rank as Australia’s leading greyhound dam for the whole of 2009.
With the rankings out, and unchanged since June 2009, Thai Again (Token Prince ~ Thia Magic) still leads the Australian dam rankings with 41 points from Al Fresco (32), Roxy Reason (25), Texan Lady (23) and Tranquil Goddess equal with Go Shoopa on 20 points.
As seems to be the case this year, the majority of leading dams have failed to throw litters in years gone by that produced multiple group class greyhounds and the majority of dams in the Australian dam rankings are their by virtue of only one son or daughter.

Collision Australia’s Top Greyhound Sire To August 2009
As was the problem with the AGRA rankings for racing greyhounds, the Australian greyhound sire rankings haven’t changed since July 2009 due to a lack of group racing finals.
Again, we hope that while the AGRA enjoy their annual junket at Cannington this week, they might sit down and talk about some of the shortcomings of their current system regarding how they ackowledge the best in the country. Under the current system, the State National Distance Championship and State National Sprint Championship winners weren’t even recognised, nor their sires or dams.
So, as the rankings are unchanged from July 2009, all we can really do is compare them to June 2009 to get some idea of emerging trends in the sires ranks.

El Galo Remains Atop The Unchanged AGRA Rankings
For the eighth straight month, the now retired El Galo has again claimed the top of the AGRA Group Greyhound Racing Rankings to the end of August 2009.
While the feat is newsworthy, the result itself was something of a foregone conclusion, as the AGRA rankings don’t use group racing heats or semi finals, or even the state finals of the National Championships in their calculations.
Hence, without a single group race final being run during August due to state heats and finals of the National Sprint and Distance Championships, not a single greyhound anywhere in Australia earnt any points in the AGRA rankings.

WA Stayer Red Shilling Named Greyhound Of The Month
AGRA’s Greyhound of the Month for August 2009 is Western Australian stayer Red Shilling. The former Victorian has been in scintillating form since she made her way to the west in February where she won first up over 715 metres at Cannington.
Since that first win at Cannington she has won six races over the 642 and another six over the 715 including the heat and final of the state National Distance Championship.
Red Shilling goes into next week’s national final as the greyhound to beat as no dog is racing better over the 715 at Cannington than the red fawn bitch by Big Daddy Cool.

Sand Burner Named August Run Of The Month
AGRA’s Run of the Month for August 2009 has been awarded to New South Wales exciting middle distance performer Sand Burner for his brilliant performance in smashing the track record at Richmond over 535 on August 21 in the mixed grade Abcoe Distributors Stake.
The win was an impressive effort as Sand Burner was back in the ruck early in sixth position but worked his way into fourth, third then second before racing away in the straight to win by nine and half lengths in track record time of 30.17.
The record had stood since February 2008 to Western Land at 30.26 so to take a length and a half off the time standard it was quite an effort from the black dog by import Flying Penske. He went into the race in good form having won at Wentworth Park on August 10th in 30.17 after coming from last early to win racing away.

Pro Trainers To The Fore At Canberra Greyhounds
It was hard for anyone else to get a look in on Sunday evening as trainers Jodie Gilbert and Ian McFarlane claimed five and two wins respectively over the 11 race card.
Gunning trainer Gilbert picking up the early running double when Cool Aussie pulling off a big dividend win over the sprints in the first before, Silver City Jake got his own way early and went on to kick away in the Cup prelude in a very smart 30.37 over kennelmate Buckle Bunny and McFarlane’s Millefiori.
The Gilbert kennels striking again in race 8, Cawbourne Hails, stepping well early to lead all the way in 30.90, becoming the first leg of the trainers second running double of the night, with Cawbourne Bolt finishing too strong for Midnight Theory in a solid 17.90 performance.

Greyhound Racing Tips For Saturday 29th August 2009
Welcome to Australian Racing Greyhound’s Greyhound Racing Tips for Saturday 29th August 2009 with Tips tonight from The Meadows (Victoria), Wentworth Park (New South Wales), and Cannington (West Australia).
With the majority of the Nationals finalists decided it’s left to WA tonight to find the last two berths for both the National Distance Championship and the National Sprint Championship. Red Shilling is home as the West Australian National Distance Champion, having drawn box 1 again in the final. Doesn’t matter much who gets the second berth, but Red Shilling will be well and truly in the mix when the eastern states raiders arrive.
Linda Britton meanwhile has affirmed her dominance as a leading trainer in her own right, starting 5 of the 8 in the West Australian National Sprint Championship. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on the result, the random box draw has drawn all 5 of her runners next to each other in boxes 1-5. We’ll come to the West Australian Finals Tips later, but I’m betting Linda will start at least one runner in the National Sprint Championship Final next week.

Teddy She Goes Goes And Was Gone At Casino
The customary early brilliance of sprinter Teddy She Goes proved to be the deciding factor in her taking out the Ranvet 4th and 5th grade stake last Friday. Beginning like a bullet, she held the fence to hold out Blaze We Know in the run to the first turn.
Both greyhounds went as “one” in the back straight, and were also joined by Turbulent Teddy, but the rails runner held the advantage, and was able to kick away at the top bend. To the cheers of her supporters she raced away to win by 2 3/4 lengths in a speedy kicked 23 seconds.
Jason Fredericks trains this daughter of Go Wild Teddy, and he was joined by Ranvet representative Paul Hoffmann for the victory photo shoot. Both are keen Souths supporters so there was plenty to talk about, besides the win.

Greyhound Racing Tips For Friday 28th August 2009
Welcome to Australian Racing Greyhound’s Greyhound Racing Tips for Friday 28th August 2009 with Tips tonight from Geelong (Victoria), Richmond (New South Wales) and selected races from Mandurah (West Australia).
Hopefully we’ll see some good Greyhound Racing action tonight with Greyhound Racing coming from Geelong (Victoria), Richmond (New South Wales) and selected races from Mandurah (West Australia), lets just recap betting advice for those tracks.
Geelong is considered to be a safe punting track especially over the 457m distance. The 347m starts are usually plagued by interference and terrible betting races, box 1 is an advantage and box 3 has a good record of this trip. The few 600m races run can produce good results but the short run to 1st corner has caused more than one betting plunge to go astray and does give an advantage to the box 1 runner. Over the 457m boxes 1 and 8 both share favouritism with the next most preferred draw box 7.
