Must Be Magic Must Be Quick At Ballarat

Must Be Magic is the youngest chaser in the Flying Horse Tabaret Final at Ballarat on Wednesday night, but is primed to run the biggest race of her short career.

Trained at Bannockburn by Daryl Williams, Must Be Magic will jump from the coveted Box 1 in the final to be run over 450 metres.

“She is very quick early, and keeps on maturing with each run.” Williams said.

2009 Sky Racing Topgun First Round Invitations Announced

Twenty four first round invitations to nominate for the 2009 $100,000 to the winner Group 1 Sky Racing Topgun were released by the Topgun selection panel last night following nearly 4 hours of intense discussion.

The expert 9 person panel consists of a number of industry media, race callers, graders and managers; all of which have an extensive history and knowledge of Greyhound Racing.

The panel has a mandate to select the best field taking into account both group race results and current form when sitting down to discuss possible candidates.

Nicholas Caley Appointed To GRV Board

Acting Premier and Minister for Racing Rob Hulls today announced the appointment of respected business analyst Nicholas Caley to the board of Greyhound Racing Victoria (GRV).

Mr Hulls said the former director and executive of ABN AMRO Australia would enhance the range of skills already on the GRV board in a sport that had gone from strength to strength in recent years.

“Mr Caley’s strong business and finance background combined with his passion for Greyhound Racing makes him an excellent addition to what is already an outstanding board,” Mr Hulls said.

Four Months Disqualification For Murray’s Positive

The GRSA Stewards Inquiry with Mr. R Murray into the positive urine sample taken from the greyhound Sydney Vella at the Gawler race meeting held on Sunday 16th August 2009 has been completed and has seen Murray receive a four month disqualification.

Just two weeks ago we were advised of the positive swab in the greyhound Sydney Vella to the prohibited substance Dexamethasone, a steroidal anti-inflammatory and the principal ingredient in the veterinary preparation Voren.

Wasting no time, GRSA Stewards heard the inquiry yesterday at GRSA headquarters.

Jodie Gilbert Granted Stay Of Proceedings

New South Wales greyhound trainer Jodie Gilbert has been granted a stay of proceedings pending an appeal against her 12 month disqualification for a positive swab.

Two weeks ago Gilbert pleaded guilty to presenting Cawbourne Tuf for the racing when not free of any prohibited substances. The subsequent routine swab sample was found to contain dexamethasone.

Before the GRNSW Stewards Inquiry, Gilbert was disqualified for a period of twelve months, until 25 September 2010, and fined $1100. The commencement of the disqualification was deferred until 26 September 2009 due to her personal circumstances.

Dyna Lachlan Dynamite In Paws Of Thunder Semi Finals

At Wentworth Park last night, Dyna Lachlan cemented his reputation as one Australia’s best greyhounds by running the fourth fastest time of the year around the Glebe circuit and by making the second semi final of the Group 1 Paws Of Thunder a one act affair, leaving greyhounds like Birthday Boy and Cindeen Shelby struggling in his wake.

Beginning quickly from box eight,he was able to lead with ease running sectionals of 5.45 and 13.86 before finishing the race of with an impressive 15.88 to win by 4.5 lengths over Cindeen Shelby in 29.74, easily the quickest of the Paws Of Thunder semi finals.

In dominating the race the way he did, the Andrea Dailly trained son of Go Wild Teddy ~ Benden Flex (Ashom Bale ~ Vista Bale), not only took his career record to 23 starts for 16 wins and 4 minor placings, and gained a start in the $100,000 to the winner Group 1 Paws Of Thunder final; but also adds the Group 1 final to his resume which includes a fourth in the Group 2 Queensland Derby behind High Earner, a Victorian National Sprint Championship final win and a second behind Dashing Corsair in the Group 1 National Sprint Championship final at Cannington.

Local Charcoal Inn Casino Cup Hopefuls In Form

Pitch Blue Chief goes into this week’s Charcoal Inn Casino Cup heats as one of the best local hopes after another scintillating win in the sprint Free For All last Friday.

He made it two wins on the trot when he came out in front of a packing field at the first bend, and skipped clear down the back. Although little Green Lee tried hard to catch him, Pitch Blue Chief held too bigger break and went on to win by 4 1/4 lengths.

The step up to 484 metres should hold no fears for the Danial Armfield trained sprinter, as he has a fast 27.37 win to his credit over that distance.

Victoria’s Graeme Bate Has Big Hand In SA Derby Heats

GRSA will run the Heats of the Coca-Cola Derby next Wednesday (30th September) at Angle Park.

At the close of nominations this morning, there were 32 greyhounds entered, meaning that there will be four heats run on Wednesday.

There will be a ten race card of racing on Wednesday with the first race commencing at 12.00pm. The Derby Heats will be races 3 – 6 on the card.
