Shimaguni Stars At The Meadows In AWM Distance Championship
The Robert Redenbach-trained Shimaguni ($3 favourite) showed her brilliance with a come-from behind win in the Group 3 AWM Distance Championship over 725 metres at The Meadows on Saturday night.
The daughter of Primo Uno and Messines settled midfield before striding to third spot with a lap to run, three lengths behind early pacesetter Echelon ($3.60), who used his box one draw to advantage.
Still three lengths off Echelon down the back straight, Shimaguni made her move running into the final corner, eventually proving too strong for her rivals in the home straight, recording a three-length win over Echelon in 42.57.

Graeme Bate’s Up And Away Laurels Victory Tempered By Positive Swab
While it was all cheers and beers after the second running for 2010 of the Laurels at Sandown last night when the Graeme Bate trained Up And Away prevailed over Kalden Athena, news has broken today that the victory has been tainted by a recent positive swab hearing before the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board.
Despite Greyhound Racing Victoria not releasing any information whatsoever with regard to a Stewards Inquiry about Bate’s positive swab, it is understood a RADB hearing was held on the 21st December 2010 and Bate was found guilty or presenting a greyhound to race under the influence of a prohibited substance.
The positive swab stems from a swab taken from Jarvis Bale back in July 2010 when running third in the Group 2 AWM Distance Championship at The Meadows. On that occasion, Jarvis Bale was beaten by West Australia Blue Lorian for the $25,000 first prize.

Lady Arko’s Long Road To The Top
It has been quite a journey for Lady Arko, just eight months ago she won a 5th grade 457 metre race at New South Wales country track Temora and what a contrast to this Thursday night where she will step up to the biggest challenge of her career and potentially claim the illustrious Group One Bold Trease Carnival Cup worth a handy $50,000 first prize. Having just 16 starts so far with 11 wins and 3 minor placings, all the signs are pointing towards great success for the black and white bitch.
Now under the care of successful Victorian trainer Jamie Ennis, the CCU syndicate of owners lead by former trainer John Hutchings, will be as confident as ever with her dazzling 41.77 display last week over the 715 metre journey at Sandown Park, outclassing the favourite for the final, So Seductive who clocked 42.21 but was subjected to a several points of interference.
Although she has never exited from box eight in her career, Lady Arko does take advantage of an outside box draw having saluted the judge three out of four times from box seven and two out of three times from box six. Her early speed at box rise will be a key factor to her position at the first turn however the benefit of no dogs crossing her from the right should give the bitch named after legendary Rugby League player Ken Arthurson plenty of room to find her place at the first turn.

Vintage Octane And Jarvis Bale Secure Nationals Berths
At Sandown tonight both the two highest ranked greyhounds secured their passports to Perth for the Group 1 $50,000 to the winner National Distance Final.
With the shock scratching of Mantra Lad from the final despite the fact he only had to start to be assured of a final berth in Perth, Vintage Octane then became the highest ranked greyhound who didn’t have to win tonight head to Perth.
Despite that fact, Vintage Octane who was incredibly dissappointing last week, somehow found more than six lenghts in the run and an incredible four lengths just in the last section to win the Victorian National Distance Championship and hold off Jarvis Bale who bloused past him last week in the heats.

Bate Clean Sweeps Vic Distance Championship Heats
Mantra Lad earned the right to defend his title but it was Graeme Bate who left the biggest impression on the Victorian heats of the Group 1 Schweppes National Distance Championship at Sandown Park tonight.
Bate, who also prepares 12 runners in the Victorian heats of the National Sprint Championship, took out all three Victorian National Distance Championship heats.
A last-start winner of the Group 2 AWM Distance Championship at The Meadows, Amity Bale ($1.30F) showed characteristic early speed from the boxes to lead clearly and was never threatened, racing to an 8.5 length win the first heat in a slick 41.99.

Zambola Bale Caps A Dual Group 2 Night For Wheeler
While rising three year old Amity Bale comfortably claimed the Group 2 AWM Distance Championship in Victoria for prolific breeder and owner Paul Wheeler, Zambola Bale dominated the Group 2 age restricted greyhound race at Wentworth Park.
The young stars took centre stage with the best young talent in our greyhound ranks competing for the $25,000 winner’s purse in the Group 2 Young Star Classic, with Mark Vincent, one of Australia’s newest and most exciting vocalists on hand to make the official presentation to the winner of the event.

Amity Bale Simply Too Good In AWM Distance Champs
Amity Bale has finally justified a lot of good judges opinions by taking out her first group race final in tonight’s Group 2 AWM Distance Championship at The Meadows.
The Graeme Bate trained star was sent out a $1.70 favourite in the race and justified the short price to run away a dominant winner by 7 ¼ lengths in 42.52 seconds for the 725m journey
During a mid week radio interview, master trainer Graeme Bate felt bad luck could be the only thing that stood in the way of Amity Bale.

Tabcorp Sign Exclusive Meadows Agreement
In an all out bid to hold the wolf (Betfair, corporate bookmakers and rival broadcasters) from the door Tabcorp, are running around the country willy-nilly signing racetracks up under exclusive sponsorship and sole Sky Channel broadcast agreements.
Bouyed by the success of the Melton Tabcorp Park development in association with Harness Racing Victoria, Tabcorp just yesterday signed on with the NSW Harness Racing Council for a 15 year agreement at Menangle Park that will see the site upgraded in time to host the 2010 InterDominion Grand Final.
According to reports the track will be renamed Tabcorp Park Menangle and will be a sister track to Tabcorp Park Melton which has become the premier harness racing track in Victoria. Part of the deal is that Tabcorp reserve exclusive media rights to showcase Sydney harness racing on Sky Racing under the guise of a “commitment to harness racing”.

Greyhound Racing Tips For Saturday 18th July 2009
Welcome to Australian Racing Greyhound’s free Greyhound Racing Tips for Saturday 18th July 2009 with Tips tonight from The Meadows (Victoria), Wentworth Park (New South Wales), and Cannington (West Australia).
Tonight’s racing is featured with two heats of the Group 2 AWM Distance Championship at The Meadows and four heats of the Group 2 Young Star Classic Heats which faield to even attract the 32 greyhounds as advertised. Not sure what the problem is but in years gone they’d have run 40-50 four dog qualifying heats just the get in the to the semi’s and now with a walk up start to the semi’s they ony attracted the 29 age restricted greyhounds.
There’s a couple of handy greyhounds engaged in the Young Star Classic heats but none that are unbeatable or would’ve scared off the competition. As this is usually one of those races that really showcases the next generation of elite racing greyhounds, the poor turnout should really send some serious waring signals, not jut to NSW, but nationwide about where the next generation of racing stock might be going to come from.
