S.A Derby Brings Yeehah For Yowyeh.

It was all celebrations for the connections of consistent sprinter, Yowyeh, who took out the Group 3 Coca-Cola S.A Derby on Thursday night at Angle Park.

With every heat winner breaking 30-seconds, it was always going to be an even affair; but the son of and went into the nights’ main event as one of the fancied chances, along with fellow Victorians, Black Hombre, Shivine and Allen Lawson.

Out of the boxes it was Yowyeh that showed the most dash with an impressive 4.44 first section. Black Hombre began hitting top speed down the back and actually took the front, while Explosive Drop had settled close on the heels of the leading duo.

Swith To Greyhounds No Probs For Pursell

Former harness racing trainer driver Brendan Pursell provided a major upset at Thursday night’s HGRC meeting conducted at Park, when Lika Whisper ( – Silver Legs) was successful in Heat 2 of the M. A. Morgan St. Leger ( 461 metres).

The ex- Victorian chaser accounted for hot favourite Pudzianowski ( – Petal) and Awesome Naz ( – Brami’s First) in the time of 26.02 and in doing so returned the handsome win dividend of $39.50.

“The win came as a real surprise, it was a cracker-jack field and he won nicely, we are over the moon,†the trainer explained on Friday.

By Name And By Nature – WA’s Spring Gift Goes To The Legend.

It may have been the omen tip the night for trainer John Carmody, as veteran sprinter Spring Legend landed the $12,000 W.A Sprint Gift final. With still sidelined, it didn’t detract from the quality of the field with all the fancied hopes winning heats the previous weekend.

It would be and Rousay who would battle for favouritism for the final, with the former eventually being sent around at $2.30 popular pick. The other two heat winners were Oliver Allen ($12.30) and of course, Spring Legend, who eventually paid $7.70 on the local TAB.

While Spring Legend began fast and lead all the way, some commission from the $12,000 winners’ cheque should go to stayer, Barney Stinson, who made a beeline for the rail and flattened half the field before the post the first time around. This allowed Spring Legend to enjoy a saloon passage across the field and to safe territory heading into the first bend.

Litter brothers Fully Advanced and Just Tripping gave owner/trainer a winning quinella in the Vic. Breeders final over 525 metres at The Meadows on Saturday night.

In a sign of the evenness of the field, just two and a quarter lengths separated five of the finalists as they crossed the finish line, with the two sons of and coming up trumps after the speedy Zara Zulu (fifth) lead for the majority of the race.

Fully Advanced defeated Just Tripping by a quarter of a length in 30.38, with Prince Holyfield a further length and a quarter away in third.

Prince Holyfield Out To Emulate Champion Mum In Meadows Vic Breeders Final

The royally bred Prince Holyfield will look to match the feats of his dam Betty’s Angel in the Vic. Breeders Maiden Final over 525 metres at The Meadows on Saturday night.

Betty’s Angel – a champion of the sport for the Bartolo family – took out the 2006 series at The Meadows, and now has two of her progeny (Prince Holyfield and Token Spinner) aiming to emulate her success from five years ago.

Trained by Ray Bartolo, Prince Holyfield will start from box eight in Saturday’s final after an all the-way 30.11 win last week – the quickest among the four semi finals. His brother Token Spinner hasn’t fared as well after the box draw, as he will have to overcome box five to win the quality-laden final.
