Look To The Heavens For The Galaxy Is Upon Us
Western Australia’s premier staying series, the Group 1 Sky Racing Galaxy, is set to begin on Saturday night, with four heats over 715 metres scheduled to boost an already amazing program. Blue Lorian was the 2011 champion after defeating a stellar field and this year’s version should be just as entertaining.
All eyes will be on the second heat, which will be race seven on the card, to see if local superstar Miata can race through to her first Group 1 final. She will wear yellow for the heat and with a vacant box on her outside, the Paul Stuart trained freak should be able to navigate the small six-dog field and set up a much anticipated final next weekend.
While it would seem only bad luck can stop the favourite, there will still be a second final spot up for grabs. Out of those looking to join Miata, or cause an upset, the former W.A greyhound Kalden Petroni will be the most likely, after showing very good staying form in South Australia. Being out of Abbadale Gold, Kalden Petroni is bred to stay and Troy Murray is no stranger to preparing his troops for feature events. Divine Nation is a NSW visitor that has moderate Wentworth Park form and will need to stay out of trouble from box eight in this event. The Parelli team has brought a nice cluster of greyhounds over from the east and Divine Nation is not without a hope of qualifying.

2012 SA Sprint Championship Final Box Draw
Thursday night at Angle Park there were four exciting Heats of the SA Sprint Championship where the first two placegetters from each heat qualified for next week’s Group 3 Final. The fastest qualifier for the Final was the Troy Murray trained Kalden Aurora who led throughout from box 8 in Heat 1 to record a slick 29.82 for the 515m journey holding off a gallant Goosebumps for Matthew Payne by ¾ lengths. Both greyhounds staged a thrilling race after they cleared out from the main body of the field and will be strong hopes in next week’s Final.
The second Heat was taken out by the Petar Jovanovic trained Joken Kihael who made full use of the inside box to position up near the lead and then power past leader Victa Troy for trainer Ron Shadow in the shadows of the post to win by a head. He rated 30.03 for the 515m journey and looks to be one of the main chances in the Final despite drawing box 4 for the Group 3 feature.
The third Heat was a blow out for punters with rank outsider Bandanna Lad for trainer Troy Murray overcoming a slow beginning to win running away in a solid 30.29 at the juicy odds of $34.30 on TattsBet defeating the Petar Jovanovic trained Led Zeppelin by ¾ lengths who returned to something like his best with a handy second after showing good early pace. Race favourites Aston Thomas and Hannah McLaren both found trouble early putting pay to their chances with Hannah McLaren recovering the best to run an eye catching third.

Kalden Mayhem Awarded Australia’s Run Of The Month For November 2011
AGRA’s Run of the Month for November 2011 has been awarded to Gawler Cup winner the much travelled South Australian Kalden Mayhem.
The blue dog staged a last to first victory in the final of the Group 3 Gawler Cup on November 12.
A noted poor beginner throughout his career he once again begun poorly from box four and was back last at the post the first time. He hardly improved his position in running and had got past one runner Rawson Reason half down the back straight.

Last year Troy had six runners engaged in four heats, winning three of them and qualifying five dogs for the Final. He ended up not only training last year’s trifecta in the race with his good race bitch Aston Rachael winning, he trained the first five past the post.

National Champ Off To The Shaky Isles
Reigning National Sprint Champion, Metz Magic, is one of four greyhounds heading to New Zealand for the final of the Sister Cities Cup. With a AUD$20,000 first prize, and another $14,000 being dedicated for the placings, it is certainly worth the trip for connections.
It was somewhat disappointing however to see only one heat of seven being run for the Queensland leg of the series, after South Australia held two heats on the Monday night prior.
Ron Ball’s newest track star was a clear favourite to take out the single heat, and he didn’t disappoint with another strong performance in 30.02. Again having to come from within the pack, Metz Magic’s winning strike rate is now looking more impressive by the week, and it could be two feature race victories in only ten lifetime starts if he performs at his best in NZ.

Sapphire Surprise Victor In Gawler Breeders
Nirimba Sapphire staked its claim as one of South Australia’s most promising young chasers after a dominant win in the 2011 Gawler Breeders’ final held earlier this week.
Starting from box seven, Nirimba Sapphire was able to hold out the well credentialed Goosebumps ($2.40 fav) to the first turn and had established a five length break entering the back straight. From there it was a case of ‘catch me if you can’, and with most of the opposition getting in each others’ way, there was no way the race was slipping from her grasp.
Crossing the line over three lengths in front of Goosebumps, in a time of 30.66, it was a handy win considering the quality of the opposition and perfect timing for trainer, Z. Wudarczyk, who only took over training duties at the beginning of this series.

Perth Cup and Galaxy Heats Add to Summer Group 1 Road Show
There will be plenty of tired punters on the eastern seaboard this weekend. This is mainly due to the late night racing of Western Australia hosting the rich Perth Cup and Galaxy series this Saturday night.
A fantastic program of no less than twelve Group 1 heats always provides an excellent opportunity for Greyhounds WA to showcase the excellent condition of racing across the Nullarbor.
A calendar change for 2011 has both finals moved from mid-March to an early February timeslot, making for an interesting ‘road-trip’ feel about the summer racing schedule. After the Brisbane Cup back in November, Hobart Thousand in December and January’s Adelaide Cup series, it sets up a nice platform for Cannington before the show rolls on to the Golden Easter Egg in Sydney.
The night begins with a bang as Sale Cup winner Symmetry battles local All-Stars Sprint hero Uno Kendra. The brilliant Kalden Athena returns back to Cannington in the same race and Tasmanian veteran Accounts is a rough chance as well.

Third Time Lucky For Boozeroo To Break Through In Gawler Gold Cup
South Australia’s most exciting sprinter, Boozeroo, has taken out the 2010 Group 3 Bunyip Gawler Gold Cup with a dashing all-the-way win. As is so often the case with this black speedster, punters sent her out favourite, starting $2.20 with the big night bookmakers.
Some before the race may have seen that price as ‘unders’ considering the quality of the field, with the eight runners having nearly 100 wins between them. Both Random Test for Rob Harnas and Where’s Pancho for Peter Jovanovic looked right in it with impeccable records at the track, while Wandy Prince was probably the standout heat winner.
Bandanna Lad had the best of the box draw and looked a real chance after ending Strictly Mambo’s winning run to earn its place in the $29,000 final.

2010 Launceston Cup Detailed Form And Tips
This Monday sees the third of Tassie’s Group race trio completed, with the running of the Group 2 Country Club Launceston Cup. The series kicked off with eight heats last week, with only the winners progressing to the $40,000-to-the-winner final.
Previous winners of this great race have included talented locals Fine Horizon (1999 & 2000), Top Shiraz (2001) and Obie Trice (2004) as well as interstaters stars as Jeanie’s Queen (2002).
This year’s event sees Butch Deverell going for an amazing hat-trick of wins, after littermates Akka Boy and Big Moose have taken the Cup in ’08 and ’09 respectively. But the seven locals engaged will be hard pressed to stop the lone Victorian and likely favourite, Gardam Prince.

Dyna Lachlan Wins 2010 Adelaide Cup
Victorian Dyna Lachlan led all the way in scintillating style to win the Group 1 Adelaide Cup at Angle Park.
The forgotten dog of the elite field won The Advertiser Interstate Challenge two weeks ago, but punters had forsaken the son of Go Wild Teddy after last week’s semi-final.
Dyna Lachlan could only manage second last week, but the result was never in doubt last night in SA’s premier race.
“As soon as he led I thought it was all over,” travelling companion George Dailly said.
“He’s a really strong dog and I’m not surprised he ran away from them.”
Eden Valley trainer Jan Jones received the thrill of her career when Strictly Mambo charged into second place.
Queenslander Mr Metz was third with SA’s Springvale Dash in fourth. Earlier, Aston Rachael announced herself as a future star in the John Gray Memorial final running 29.63secs.
Trained by Troy Murray at Virginia, Aston Rachael charged to an early lead and beat home kennel mate Where’s Fly by nearly eight lengths. The daughter of Where’s Pedro and Maureen Shirly is owned by Ray Borda.
For the record Dyna Lachlan ($5.50) beat Strictly Mambo ($49.90) and Mr. Metz ($5.80) third. Time for the final was 29.48 3/100th slower than last year with sectional splits of 4.37 and a fast 16.73.
After the placed runners the field finished in the following order 4th Springvale Dash ($15.20), 5th High Earner ($2.30), 6th Prankster ($11.70) 7th Where’s Diamond ($38.00) and Turanza Bale ($4.90). Dyna Lachlan is a Black Dog whelped July 2007 by Go Wild Teddy from Benden Flex (Ashom Bale x Vista Bale) he is raced by Paul Wheeler and trained by Andrea Dailly at Anakie. Dyna Lachlan has raced 37 times for 22 wins and nine placings and with the $63,250 first prize for the Adelaide Cup it took his overall stake earnings to $271,555.

Western Land Land’s Linda Britton’s Fifth Galaxy
Linda Britton won her fifth Sky Channel Galaxy final when Western Land ($8.20) (Big Daddy Cool-On This Fold) ran on from third to defeat South Australian chaser Risk It ($17.70) and race favourite the Victorian Vintage Octane ($1.60 fav) in Australia’s second richest staying race.
Britton won the Galaxy in 1998 with Paradise Street, 1999 Harvard Bale, 2002 Jennev and 2004 with Winter, however Saturday nights win was one of her proudest moments as a greyhound trainer.

Vintage Octane Gets His Box And Galaxy Favouritism
Upsets and form reversals abounded last Saturday night in the heats of Australia’s second richest staying event on the calendar, the Group 1 Sky Channel Galaxy, but a good box draw has seen Vinatge Octane a short favourite to win the final.
Won last year by super stayer and 2008 WA Greyhound Of The Year Elektra, in a fabulous last to first effort (you can re-live that sensational run here – 2008 Galaxy Final); and featuring in that final last year also is one of this year’s finalist’s Tayza.
Tayza (Stately Bird-Crazy Habit) led throughout to win the first heat of the Sky Channel Galaxy defeating Octanol by 1 ½ lengths in 41.78.

The History Of The Australian Cup
The chase for the sport‟s “Cup of Dreams†commenced in 1958 (with the exception of 1963 when the Cup was not held due to the MGRA relocating from the old North Melbourne track to Olympic Park).
From 1964 to 1995, the Australian Cup was synonymous with Olympic Park. But for two years (1996-97), the Cup was staged at Sandown Park due to the closure of Olympic Park because of the City Link freeway project and the MGRA‟s subsequent search for a new home.
