Surin’ Sal Going From Strength To Strength At Casino

Promising youngster Surin’ Sal set the time standard in the heats of the rich Blue Paws Super Series with a sizzling 27.37 win at Queen Elizabeth Park last Friday.

Exiting well from box three, she had the lead at the winning post the first time, and at that point scooted away.

Her commanding lead was slowly whitled back by the well performed Allegro Charm over the closing stages, but the Maragret Dwyer trained sprinter held on to win by a length and a half. All of her starts have been on her home track where she has now won four from eight.

Apache Aero Prevails In A Casino Greyhounds Thriller

An intriguing battle between Lady Proper and Apache Aero highlighted the second of the Blue Paws 484 metre maiden heats last Friday.

It was a “two dog war” after both greyhounds had scooted away from their rivals early in proceedings, and they settled down to fight the race out. Lady Proper held the “‘whip hand” early with a clear break, but as they went down the back, Apache Aero was narrowing the margin.

She took over at the top turn and held her advantage to the line to win by 1 1/4 lengths in a handy 27.73. The holidaying Donna Batesse owns the winner, who is trained by Shane Robinson.

Half Sisters Quinella Casino Final

It was a case of history repeating itself when half sisters Green Lee and Surin’ Sal met in the Mills Bricks and Pavers Sprint final last Friday. In the heat they came from boxes two and seven, and again in the final Green Lee got the coveted rails while Surin’ Sal was drawn in six.

The box draw proved the difference with Green Lee sprearing out from inside while Surin’ Sal was slightly held up in “traffic”. They raced in first and second place from the first turn, but with the early advantange Green Lee was able to hold on by a length.

The time of 23.08 was the best of the sprint races.

Brother Tom Back To His Best At Casino

Veteran sprinter Brother Tom returned to his best form with a solid win in the Richmond Bakery stake at Casino last Friday.

The rising four year old gave his younger rivals plenty of cheek when he flew out of the traps to take up the running at the first bend. He got a good break at that point, and although challenged by Spin Me Round near home, had enough in hand to win by a neck in a handy 23.30.

Local trainer Athol Bradley only has a small team in work, with Brother Tom being the “star”. A handy second in a Steward’s trial the week before indicated a win was at close hand.
