Two New Stars Ignite Virginia Coursing

With two Preludes being run for the Two Wells Hardware & More 2009 Oaks and the Adelaide Plains Veterinary Services 2009 Derby, it would appear that two new stars have arrived on the scene. In fine but windy conditions, a seven-race program was the order of the day.

The Michael Louth owned Parsipanny took to coursing like a duck to water – albeit her dam was a good straight track dog when taking out the Oaks Prelude and has turned up with another smart youngster when McLovin won the Derby Prelude.

won the Novice event with and Cool Illusion broke his ‘bridesmaid' status when winning his Maiden for Trevor Whelan. Fast Test won for and Lil Dani provide Ken McAuley with a winner and Registered took out a Maiden Stake for Christine Smith.

Owners and trainers are reminded that the Adelaide Furniture & Electrical 2009 Waterloo Cup in conjunction with Superman at Stud will be run on Saturday – Sunday 19-20 September as well as the Two Wells Hardware & More 2009 Oaks and Adelaide Plains Veterinary Services 2009 Derby. The Waterloo is an open event for the best 32 dogs nominated and both the Derby and Oaks are for the best 16 nominated. The Derby and Oaks are Classic events for dogs and bitches whelped on or after 1 July 2007. The Derby and Oaks carry a winner's purse of $1800 as well as a free service to . The Waterloo Cup carries a winner's purse of $3600 – all events include trophy and rug. Of course, prizemoney is dependent upon the Club receiving full nominations for all events. The Club has not included any conditions on entry to the Waterloo this year but greyhounds who have coursed previously (either here or Victoria) will be given first preference. Nominations close with on Wednesday 16 September at 9.00am.

If 16 nominations are received for the Oaks and Derby, the first round will be run on Saturday 19 including the first round of the Waterloo Cup. Supporting events will be run and depending on numbers, the Club will determine the placement of these events – either Saturday or Sunday.
