2015 Group 3 SA Derby final – free tips and best bookmaker odds

VICTORIA'S domination of feature races looks set to continue this Thursday night, with the Garden State boasting six of the eight finalists in the Group 3 South Australian Derby at Angle Park.

One of those greyhounds is the exciting youngster Fever Pitch, a son of College Causeway and Drama Queen, which clocked a sizzling 29.56 in his heat last week.

The time didn't come as a surprise to trainer Rinaldo Divirgilio, who was expecting a forward showing, despite the fact his charge had never seen the track.

“I wasn't surprised because I know what the dog is capable of and I thought that unless something went wrong then he would roughly run around the 29.50 mark,” Divirgilio told Australian Racing Greyhound.

A winner of 14 from 28 overall, Fever Pitch, $5 with online bookmaker Luxbet, will start from box eight in the $25,000-to-the-winner final – a box from which he remains undefeated after four starts.

“Box one would have been perfect, but in saying that I am happy enough in box eight.

“My only concern is that normally when you get to these big finals something has got to give – I am just hoping that he doesn't get wiped out on the first turn if he gets caught out wide.”

All going to plan, Divirgilio is hopeful Fever Pitch can begin cleanly and be up pressuring for the lead around the first turn.

“He gets excited and sometimes he tends to jump up and down in the boxes, but if he gets the start right he will probably be up near the front.

“I think he can improve, particularly in his middle section, because he seemed to be feeling his way around the first turn and into the back last week.”

Divirgilio rates superstar sprinter , $2.20 with Crownbet, as the the dog to beat from box four. One of three finalists for leading trainer , the son of Barcia Bale and Crystin Bale stunned racegoers with a sublime 29.30 last Thursday.

“He is just a professional,” Divirgilio said of Dyna Double One.

“He is the sort of dog that it doesn't matter where he draws because he races like he has a jockey on his back.

“He knows what to do, he has plenty of experience in these type of races, whereas we will probably need things to go our way.

“In saying that I do think Fever Pitch is ready for a series like this and I do think he has got a big race in him – hopefully it is this one.”

Other hopefuls in the race include multiple Group finalist Lektra Concord and Group 2 winner Fun Boss, which qualified by running second behind Dyna Double One.

It's Classified is the sole home state representative for . The black dog has drawn poorly in box six, but is a winner of six from 11 including a blistering 29.53 at Angle Park back in July.
