ANDO'S Mac is on track to claim his first group title when the lids fly open for the Group 1 Vic Peters Classic (520m) at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

Despite being drawn in box six against a quality field, the -trained dog has been installed as the $2.50 favourite with online bookmaker Sportsbet.

The skinny quote follows two stunning performances in his heat and semi-final of the $75,000 series, clocking 29.72 and 29.65 respectively.

A son of El Grand Senor and Brook's Doll, Ando's Mac has gone from strength to strength since joining Mackay's kennel back in September, winning seven of his eight starts.

He will have to be at his best on Saturday night, taking on some hot youngsters, including his unbeaten kennel mate, Mister Twister.

A regally bred son of and former Double Twist, the black dog is unbeaten in all five starts, with 29.97 and 29.94 victories so far throughout the series.

Also given a leading chance is powerhouse performer Benteke which appears ideally drawn in box one. The last time the 34.6-kilogram sprinter drew the cherry, he scored a 29.67 win over the track and trip in the final of the NSW Sprint Championship.

Group 3 Magic Maiden winner Wicked Warrior is also given a leading chance, coming into the event following a strong second behind Clock's Ticking in his semi-final. Prior to that, Wicked Warrior had clocked 29.80 in winning his heat of the Vic Peters, at just his second start since resuming from a two-month spell.

Clock's Ticking is the only other runner under double figures, currently rated an $8.50 shot. A kennel mate to Wicked Warrior, the black dog is also unbeaten throughout the series, with 30.06 and 30.11 wins beside his name.

Given a rough chance to land the final is Reviewer at $12, with the speedy frontrunner aiming to pinch a break on his opposition early to be in with a chance of landing the major prize.

The Group 1 Vic Peters Classic is race eight on the card at Wentworth Park this Saturday and is set to jump at 9:50pm.
