2016 Richmond Riches market update and best odds

THE inaugural Group 2 Richmond Riches series kicks off on Saturday night with eight heats over the 535m trip.

The series is open to greyhounds which were purchased through the 2014 Richmond Puppy Auction, with the final on May 28 worth a massive $100,000 to the winner.

The current favourites to take home the title are Ritza Lenny and Thirty Talks which share the $3.50 quote with Bet365's all-in market.

Ritza Lenny will jump from box three in the fourth heat of the night and comes into the series having won eight of his 15 starts including a last start 30.66 win at Richmond. The blue dog is blessed with a massive motor and has been racing some of the top sprinters in the state, having already for both the Group 2 Cyril Rowe (472m) and the Group 2 Maitland Cup (450) throughout his brief career.

Thirty Talks debuted at Richmond last week for leading Queensland mentor Tony Brett and was impressive when scoring in 30.88. Brett has a massive opinion of the son of Where's Pedro and Unfinished which has won eight of his 11 starts and also ran third in the Group 2 Queensland Derby (520m) three runs back. Thirty Talks will start from box two in the sixth heat.

Paua To Avoid ($7), now in the care of Steve White, was formerly trained by Tony Brett and dead-heated for first in the Group 2 Memorial Maiden earlier this year. After the win Brett compared the little black bitch to his former champion , so she is obviously blessed with an enormous amount of ability. She will meet her old kennel mate Thirty Talks in heat six, with the daughter of and Paua To Terrify set to jump from box eight.

Vidi Vici, a daughter of Magic Sprite and Group 1 winner Sheikha, shares the next line of betting at $9 with Paua To Engage, a litter sister to Paua To Avoid. Both bitches have shown ability throughout their careers and will go head to head in heat five, with Paua To Engage drawn box one and Vidi Vici in the seven. Also contesting the fifth qualifier is Split Image, which is the greyhound who dead-heated with Paua To Avoid in the Vince Curry, and is a litter mate to equal series favourite Thirty Talks. Also trained by Tony Brett, Bet365 gives her a $9 shot to take home the final in just over two weeks.

The only other entrant under double figure odds to win the final is Paua To Rush at $9.50 which will jump from box four in heat eight and comes into the series with some very consistent form.

Aside from some of the short-priced top picks, there is some value to be found throughout the series, with a stack of quality dogs lining up to contest the heats.

Megalodon ($11) – Multiple city winner and runner-up in this year's Group 3 New Sensation at Wentworth Park. Blessed with early pace has finished second at Richmond twice with a PB of 30.72. Might struggle the last 30m at Richmond but is worth a small bet.

Battle Station ($11) – Trained by , he has shown a huge amount of ability at his last two starts at Bulli, clocking 29.76 and 29.61 respectively. On those occasions he displayed a good amount of early toe and if he can throughout this series he is a big hope of landing the final.

Brietta ($34) – Has a heap of potential but her bad box manners have let her down in her limited starts. Has box eight in her heat and should get every chance to progress through to the next round. If she can settle in the boxes and improve how she begins she will be a nice hope for the series at big odds.

If you back any of the greyhounds in the all-in markets, they will need to run in the first four to qualify for next week's semi-finals. A top two finish in the semis will see them make the final the following week, with a win in the decider required for a collect on your bet.
