My Bro Fabio Wins 2014 Group One Hume Cup In Devastating Fashion

Winning a One race is quite an achievement, but few ever do it as dominantly as the trained did when he took out the 2014 at on Monday night.

He may have been afforded his share of luck early in the race, but the son of Turanza Bale and Flamenco (Where's Pedro – ) took full advantage of it to score by just under 15 lengths in 34.28.

As expected, Eliza Blanche (8) cut left hard from the the extreme outside draw. She had all but done the impossible and found the fence (and the lead) when she tangled with Deadly Boy (6). This presented dream runs through on the fence for inside runners with Arejay Smokey (1) finding the early lead.

My Bro Fabio (2) was actually one of the last to leave the traps and wanted to use a fair portion of the track which saw him take a short distance to get free of Flying Twist (3) and Oscura (4). Once he did he resembled a fur clad cannonball as he railed through and then rocketed around Arejay Smokey to hit the front before the field passed the post the first time.

The 35kg proceeded to his imperious victory by exploding away down the back straight, putting a huge space on Arejay Smokey who unfortunately went amiss.

Nothing else managed to get close to the 32-month-old as he careered away to register his maiden Group One victory.

Oscura weaved his way through the field to finish second, landing the quinella for the Ennis kennel in the process while Eliza Blanche recovered from her early trouble to run a credible third given the extenuating circumstances.

Excuses could be made for nearly every other runner with the first 100 metres of the race littered with carnage, but all honours sit firmly with My Bro Fabio who adds the Hume Cup to his CV alongside the Group Three Canberra Cup which he won earlier this year.

It was My Bro Fabio's 21st career win from 41 starts and his career stakes earnings now sit just below the $200,000 mark.
