The final group race of the year at Wentworth Park will be run and won on Saturday night, with Zipping Willow the early favourite to notch up yet another victory at the track. Trainer Jason Mackay will be looking to keep his talented chaser's superb run of form going, as she looks to notch up her fourth straight win and twentieth career win at the track.
Doreen Drynan's Chica Destacada was the fastest heat winner last week and is suitably drawn in box one, provided she begins cleanly and matches Zipping Willow early on. After finishing second in the Group One Melbourne Cup, the daughter of Cosmic Rumble and Eluthra oozed confidence last week and should challenge this field.
Last year's winner Double Twist went onto win the coveted NSW Greyhound of the Year title, with both of these greyhounds certain to be mentioned when the nominees for this year's award are announced.
Successful connections will take home $25,000 in prize money, with the final to jump at 9.48pm EDST.
Kerry Drynan (Kennel Representative): “She missed the start a bit last week and will have to improve on that from box one. Zipping Willow is the danger, but i'm just hoping she can begin well and be up there early on.”
ARG Comment: Ran the race of his life last week to finish second behind Chica Destacada at big odds. Is drawn perfectly to get a nice run again and if he gets some luck is a good place chance.
ARG Comment: Flew out from box five last week to lead until being tackled in the home straight by Cawbourne Kayono. Should be in the middle early on, but will need to find something at the finish to match some of these strong greyhounds.
Dean Swain – Trainer: “I think she has a good chance, she is a class act and I think the box isn't all bad. She needed the run last week, so will be improved for Saturday. It's a fantastic field and i'm proud to be a part of it.”
Cam Hallinan (Owner Representative): “She isn't drawn badly, but will need to begin very well to get to the front at the first turn. We are all confident she can go well.”
ARG Comment: Showed great strength last week in taking out final heat of the night. Will need to improve on the clock to be a threat in this affair, however has good early pace and can get a nice cross from the wide draw.
