Fire Hawk Sets The Pop Northfield Maiden Time Standard

On times, not much separates the finalists in this week's Pop Northfield Memorial maiden after the semi finals were run last .

Fastest qualifier was Fire Hawk who ran a sizzling 22.97.

Trainer Jan Finneran told me that he has improved with every trial and run, and is now getting down to Free For All times. The Magnay family own him, and they will be on tenterhooks all week.

Next best time was clocked by Miss Noodles who ran 23.08 for in an all of the way win. Cousin Alfie got to the front down the back to clock 23.15 for , whilst Pretty Norris rounded out the semis running 23.20 for . Some of the runs of the runners up were also first class, so it looks a cracking race next Friday afternoon.

Five heats of the Westlawn Finance Sprint were also contested with King Emmanuel scoring in the opening run off clocking 23.07 for Glenda Dart. Bralyn Alvin then led all of the way in 23.11 for Brad Northfield, while Milkcart Trick ran 23.50 for . Lucy Rose Hi returned to her best when she led all of the way in 23.38, and Brad Northfield got two into the final when Bralyn Stripes ran the best of the day (22.91). The box draw may determine the winner here.

was never headed in taking out the RSM Club 3rd and 4th grade in a fast 22.93 for , while Charlie Northfield made it two winners on the day with Kingsbrae Sam in the South Casino Newsagency stake. The daughter of former Country Challenge winner stopped the clock at 27.27.

A great day's racing next Friday afternoon with two great finals and a well balanced support card of another 10 TAB races.
