Goulburn Cup winner aiming for two wins in five days
CLOCK'S Ticking will be aiming to score his second win in five days when he heads to Wentworth Park this Saturday night.
Trained by Jason Magri, the son of Glen Gallon and Detonate scored a sensational triumph in Tuesday's $10,000 Goulburn Cup (440m), a merited victory according to his trainer.
“He is starting to step up to the mark now so I think he deserved to win a big final,” Magri told Australian Racing Greyhound.
“He qualified for the final of the Vic Peters last month after winning a heat and semi-final and he is really coming along nice and is starting to step up to the mark.”
A winner of 14 of his 32 career starts, Magri is now hopeful that the black dog will continue to improve.
“You don't know how much they are going to improve so I don't want to get too carried away, but he is good enough to compete at the higher level,” Magri said.
“He is only two and a half so I think his best racing is in front of him, as long as he can hold up and keep maturing.”
Clock's Ticking will now contest the Free For All event at Wentworth Park this Saturday night over 520m, drawing box eight against a class field including the likes of Ritza Lenny (box three) and One Samuel (box four).
Despite the wide draw, Magri is hoping his charge will come out running after a couple of starts away from headquarters.
“The ability is there, but he tends to miss the kick every now and again.
“He has come out well the last three starts at Goulburn so now I am hoping he can do the same at Wenty.
“We always go for the Goulburn Cup if we have got the dogs. It seems to be good for them going to a different track for a change, it seems to freshen their minds up and then when they go back to Wenty and usually put in a few good runs.
“Hopefully it works for him too.”
Ten races will be run at Wentworth Park this Saturday night which is also a special night at the track to thank the wide range of personalities, organisations and groups which have contributed in overturning the ban on greyhound racing.
Entry to the track is a gold coin donation, with all proceeds going to Motor Neuron Disease research.
