GRNSW Country Challenge King Crowned

In front of a bumper crowd, the Kempsey Greyhound club conducted a 12 event card, with the feature being the final of the Country Challenge and the question on everyone's lips was could the old boy win the final or at the very least gain enough points to be crowned the GRNSW Country Challenge King. But before we got to see the final there was plenty of other action in store.

Race 1 saw Dawnie's Angel for Dawn Lynch take the prize in 20.90 when she led throughout , beating Merlot Madness by 2 ¼ lengths and Goanna Girl a further neck behind.

Race 2 and in a very rough and tumble race it saw Mallaig Magic for Greg Carragher who was left all alone in front and let the others get the bumps and bruises score by an incredible 17 ¼ lengths from Family Time and Stormy Sapphire, the winner running a very nippy 30.10.

Race 3 in what looked a very even race it saw I've Got Springs for get the cash by taking full advantage of box one when he led throughout to beat Hayden's Highway who came home hard and Macy May who showed a welcome return to form. The winner scored in 21.03

Race 4 and the very consistent Sporty Ranger for Kerry Barrass, who has just returned to racing from time off due to motherhood, scored a very good win in 20.30 from Nimble Tatoo who finished 1 ¾ lengths behind the winner and General Mulwee a further ½ length back.

Race 5 and in a tight finish, Dyljay for stuck his neck out on the line to score a popular win, beating Bad Conduct by a neck and What Not who chased home hard finishing 3rd. Dyljay scored in a quick 20.51.

Race 6 over the grueling 635m journey and Reggietub for a jubilant Reta Brown came with a big run to score in 38.49 from Saintly Kiss who finished 1 ½ lengths back and Dora Roxon who tried hard running 3rd.

Race 7 the Euchre Point Stud Final and last weeks fastest heat winner for trainer Roger O'Neill showed last weeks win was no fluke, when he pinged the lids to race away and score by 4 ¼ lengths in a fast 20.43 from Mulwee Bye and Detective Eames who both gave their all.

Race 8 and that man again Roger O'Neill brought up the second leg of his double when gave his chasers no chance when he led throughout in a time of 20.36, winning by 5 ¼ lengths from Walkabout Possum and Mumanjess who ran home well.

Race 9 the GRNSW Country Challenge final and all eyes were on Token Mulwee and whether his legs could hold up and win or at the very least take enough points from the final Country Challenge to be leading points scorer and take home the $10,000 bonus. At lid rise Jessica Albaz for was the favourite and she justified the heavy support when she pounced on the lead and raced away from the field to beat Bago Raider who ran a great race and the grand old man of racing Token Mulwee coming home well for 3rd and taking home the cash bonus for top points scorer. But all accolades to Jessica Albaz as she simply ran the field off its legs to score in a flying 29.70 just .03 outside the .

Race 10 saw the Henry McCarthy trained come from the clouds and miss all the bumping in the straight to beat Ebony Vane by a length and the unlucky Go Malcolm a further ¾ length back, The winner scored in 30.62.

Race 11 and the heavily backed Mulligar Lane for Stephen Attwater camped just behind the leaders till the straight when he went cya to score in 20.55 beating Elusive Mai by 1 ¼ lengths and Zany Style running her usual consistent race for 3rd

Race 12 the last race in a fantastic June carnival and Camden Dream for Norman Cameron got the choccies and the Blue Paws bonus when he fell in by a head beating who motored home and Let's who tried hard a further 4 ¾ lengths back. The winner scored in a quick 30.20

The club would like to thank all the participants, the sponsors and especially the crowd, many who were first timers to a greyhound track, but by going on their responses it wont be their last.

Finally congratulations to Jessica Albaz and Glen McClean for their Country Challenge win, Sir Snippalot and Roger O'Neill for their win in the Euchre Point Stud win and last but not least Token Mulwee and a now very relieved Joanne Russell on topping the points score in the Country Challenge and claiming the $10,000.
