Ray Hadley says Newson-Baird alliance is a disgrace
RAY Hadley has slammed the interim CEO of Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) Paul Newson for leaking a report to Premier Mike Baird and Deputy Premier Troy Grant.
The report was in relation to a phone conversation which was recorded between the former CEO of GRNSW Brent Hogan and a prominent greyhound trainer Tony Gannon.
The conversation occurred the week before the ABC's Four Corners program went to air and depicted Gannon trying to ascertain information from the former CEO as to rumours that NSW participants had been caught on camera live baiting.
A subsequent report into the conversation by independent investigator David Madden recommended that the phone call was used as evidence during the Special Commission of Inquiry.
However, as the sport faces a shutdown at the hands of the Baird government, it has come to light that Newson had highlighted the matter and had sent the report to both Baird and Grant to ‘facilitate debate in Parliament associated with the closure of the greyhound racing industry in NSW'.
Hadley viciously attacked Newson's move to send the report to the Premier, accusing him of aiding the government's attempts to close the industry down.
“[Newson] has been appointed by the Premier to take charge of the industry and get to the bottom of the problems that were inherent in the industry for a small number of participants,” Hadley said on 2GB.
“He's not there once he has taken the position to do the bidding of Mike Baird – he is not a puppet – he is supposed to be the Chief Executive Officer of Greyhound Racing New South Wales.
“Paul Newson, you should sack yourself today. You have portrayed yourself in a private and confidential letter… as nothing more than a subservient cap tagging, cap waving supporter of the Premier.
“You say in this private and confidential missive to the Premier and Deputy Premier ‘I am providing this report to you to facilitate debate in Parliament'.
“In other words, ‘nod nod wink wink, jam it to them Premier, here is a bit more stuff you can do to embarrass everyone involved'.
“He is there to close it down… that's why he has been put there.”
Hadley was also highly critical of Mike Baird who has failed to listen to evidence over the past few weeks that the Special Commission of Inquiry report into greyhound racing, tabled by Justice Michael McHugh, contains flawed and unsubstantiated evidence.
“This is not just about greyhound racing… this is about a Premier who is trying to orchestrate the decision he has made by getting his lackey that he appointed to support him,” Hadley said.
“The Premier told Fred Nile yesterday that he couldn't remove from his mind the sight on the Four Corners program on live baiting.
“He made his decision a long time ago that greyhound racing had to be banned because of that report.
“Yes it's horrendous, yes it's dreadful, yes it shouldn't have happened, but there has been no opportunity for Greyhound Racing New South Wales because of legislation under the Surveillance Act 2005 to remove these people from greyhound racing.
“[Mike Baird] could change that with the snap of a finger…and give them the power to get rid of… the cheats and the thieves and the hoons from the industry and leave the 80-90-95% of decent people to get on with their lives – but that doesn't suit his agenda.
“Mike Baird you are one of the great disappointments. In fact, because its coming into the launch of the Olympics I say this to you – when it comes to disappointments in state parliament in NSW, you're on the dais getting the bronze, the silver and the gold medal.
“You're behaviour is reprehensible, it goes against your Christian values to act in such a duplicitous way… it's disgraceful.
“There may be a few crooks in greyhound racing but I'll give you a tip, they've got a few good bedfellows down there on Macquarie Street.”
This is disgraceful, firstly Baird demonises the participants and now with total arrogance, audacity and his born to be king attitude with the court jester by his side attacking decent hardworking public servants who were doing their job. Since when is a Chief Steward and a CEO paid by the tax payer to pander to the anti racing rabid rent a crowd. I doubt that was part of their job descriptions. I was asked on another thread questions about the in house administrator of GRNSW roll and conduct and performance as a public servant. I said in effect that a wise public servant would have seen the impossible position and would go on extended stress leave and not come back until common sense prevailed. I would love to know how many persons refused the above position before they got anyone inexperienced enough to take it.
