Disqualifications Over Strathalbyn Incident

Greyhound Racing SA opened an on Thursday 6 December 2012 into alleged improper behaviour by Mr. Raymond Murray and Mr. at the Greyhound race meeting conducted on Sunday 11th November 2012.

Evidence was taken from Mr. Raymond Murray, Mr. Paul Barry, Stewards on duty and a number of witnesses.

Stewards adjourned the inquiry until Monday 10 December 2012 at 5.00pm.

At the resumption of the inquiry further evidence was taken from Mr Raymond Murray, after taking into consideration all the evidence, stewards were of the opinion that there was sufficient evidence before them to lay three charges under the of greyhound racing against Mr. Raymond Murray and one against Mr. Paul Barry

The following charges were laid against Mr. Raymond Murray.

CHARGE 1
R86 Offences
A person (including an official) shall be guilty of an offence if the person-

(f) engages in, publishes or causes to be published, broadcasts or causes to be broadcast, the use of any contemptuous, unseemly, improper, insulting, or offensive language, conduct or behaviour in any manner or form towards, or in relation to-
(i) a ;
(ii) the committee, or a member of the committee, of a club;
(iii) the Controlling Body, or a member of the Controlling Body; or
(iv) any other person having official duties in relation to greyhound racing;

After pleading guilty to the offence Mr Murray was disqualified for a period of 2 months.

CHARGE 2
R86 Offences
A person (including an official) shall be guilty of an offence if the person-

(q) commits or omits to do any act or engages in conduct which is in any way detrimental or prejudicial to the interest, welfare, image, control or promotion of greyhound racing-

After pleading not guilty to the offence Mr. Raymond Murray was found guilty and disqualified for a period of 6 months.

CHARGE 3
R86 Offences
A person (including an official) shall be guilty of an offence if the person-

(o) has, in relation to a greyhound or greyhound racing, done a thing, or omitted to do a thing, which, in the opinion of the Stewards or the Controlling Body, as the case may be, is negligent, dishonest, corrupt, fraudulent or improper, or constitutes ;

After pleading not guilty to the offence Mr. Raymond Murray was found guilty and disqualified for a period of 3 months.

Stewards ruled that the penalties of 6 months and two months were to be served accumulative, with the period of 3 months to be served concurrently with the other two penalties.

Mr. Paul Barry was charged with an offence under Greyhound Racing Rule 86 (o) which reads

R86 Offences
A person (including an official) shall be guilty of an offence if the person-

(o) has, in relation to a greyhound or greyhound racing, done a thing, or omitted to do a thing, which, in the opinion of the Stewards or the Controlling Body, as the case may be, is negligent, dishonest, corrupt, fraudulent or improper, or constitutes misconduct;

After pleading guilty to the charge Mr. Paul Barry was disqualified for a period of one month and fined the sum of $1,000.
Stewards ruled that all disqualification imposed were to commence at midnight 17th December 2012
