Improving Tafari Bale Snares SA National Distance Title

Sent to the boxes a $3.20 equal favourite with last years winner , Tafari Bale managed to to take up a position wide and off the pace from his box eight draw.

That proved the key to the race as Ambers Ace had taken the early lead with taking over mid race and Proven Rebel hunting up in to second as Amber's Ace dropped out.

But while all this changing was occurring Tafari Bale was comfortably running his own race to the outside never more than four to five lengths off the leader and was unaffected by the greyhounds to his inside.

As Uncle Remus tired, Tafari Bale seized his opportunity and seemingly cruised past the lead in the home straight the last time to win by 2.25 lengths in 43.59, which is almost a length quicker than his winning heat time.

The win added $4,250 to Tafari Bale's career prizemoney of $13,015 and was the 12th win from 33 starts with 14 minor placings for the son of Pure Octane~Fiona Bale. Whelped in March 2007 the owned and Lisa Rasmussen trained greyhound started his career in Victoria having eight starts there for just the one 26.02 457m win.

Sent to Rasmussen in South Australia, Tafari Bale managed to win five of his first ten starts over the sprint journey before being stepped up to middle distance racing, winning both his first two middle distance starts. Last weeks heat win represented Tafari Bale's first genuine distance win and was only his third start over the distance.

Having managed improving back to back wins over the long journey now at just his fourth start over the trip, Tafari Bale will now join the other stayers at Cannington on Saturday 5th September 2009 racing for $50,000 to the winner in the big race.
