Murray And Sydney Vella Return A Positive Swab

South Australian greyhound trainer Raymond Murray has been asked to attend a at headquarters to explain a positive returned in his greyhound from a greyhound meeting.

Mr Murray was advised of the positive swab on the 31st August 2009 and that routine secondary testing of the reserve portion of the swab sample would be carried out.

That second swab analysis confirmed the presence of , a steroidal anti-inflammatory that is commonly found in veterinary preparations such as .

The positive swab stems from a Gawler greyhound meeting on Sunday 16th August 2009 in which Sydney Vella contested a mixed 4th/5th grade event over the 531m journey. On the day in question Sydney Vella started from box 4 and was always handy in the run before overcoming an easing to win by 6.5 lengths in 31.01 as a $3.50 second favourite. It was Sydney Vella's first win in South Australia since a 3 month stint of racing in Western Australia that netted just the one win.

Mr. Murray is required to attend an inquiry at the offices of GRSA Limited on Monday 28th September 2009 at 11.00am, together with any witnesses that may assist for an inquiry by the Stewards into the circumstances relating to the positive urine sample.
