150 Wins And Fisherman Is Not Finished Yet

Tasmania's illustrious Where's Pedro – Stylish Dotty litter produced it's 150th winner when veteran chaser Fisherman greeted the judge at the Tote Racing Centre on Monday night May 21.

This may very well be a record number of wins achieved by a Tasmanian bred litter of pups and has sent industry historians scurrying for their record books in an attempt to prove otherwise.

Shirley Sutcliffe, wife of the trainer of Fisherman Mark Sutcliffe, believes that it may very well be a record for a Tasmanian litter and claims that it is a wonderful advertisement for the local breeding industry.

“It is a huge thrill to be involved with the litter, which is certainly the most successful that I can in Tasmania since we have been involved in the sport,” she declared this week.

The litter has produced the outstanding chasers Fisherman (35 wins), Pedro Pronto (20), Stylish Bernie (10), (30), Where's Ned (24), Stylish Moon (13), Stylish Tu Tu (8), Burrane (9) and Zapala (1).

These nine greyhounds have grossed total earnings of $323,914 for and created a great deal of interest within the industry.

Whelped in February 1999, Stylish Dotty (Stylish Teddy – Kenny's Best Pal), was bred by Relbia's Tony Dawson and donated as a three-month-old pup to the Greyhound Racing Club, who were organising a fund raising activity.

Purchased by Launceston's Bob Grubb, the bitch was to succeed at the by winning 14 races and taking stakes of in excess of $16,000, before being retired in 2004.

Stylish Dotty's first litter by produced winners, but nothing to compare of course with her second litter by Where's Pedro, which has proven to be .

Bob Grubb prepared Pedro Pronto, Stylish Moon and Stylish Tu Tu and considers the former chaser to probably have been the pick of the litter.

“Pedro Pronto won 20 of his 40 starts but then unfortunately broke a hock and had to be retired,” he explained.

“We have retained the breed and I have high hopes for a litter of eight from Stylish Moon by the ill-fated ,” he added.

Tony Dawson has achieved great results with Where's Ned and Stylish Monty, who like Fisherman is still racing at the ripe old age of five and a half.

Mark And Shirley Sutcliffe have enjoyed their involvement with the litter by racing Fisherman and Stylish Bernie, which had to be retired due to blindness.

Goeorge Town's Gary Crane applied the brush to Burrane and Zapala, who both did their bit by winning 10 races between them.

In recent times the Collide – Ricky's Angel litter, which includes the outstanding chasers Rewind, Penny's Angel and Miss Roman Nose, has been in the news in Tasmania but it has a way to go before it's members have achieved 100 race wins.
